A very fine Japanese gilt blue and white charger decorated with phoenixes, dragons, peonies and other motifs. There is a six characters Chinese Chenghua mark inside the foot-rim, but I would date it to 18th or 19th century. The charger is in excellent condition besides some faded gilt and one kiln fault spot(see photo #2); no cracks or chips. Diameter: 15-7/8".

18th century netsuke of a standing Mongolian archer, a bow in his hands and a quiver with arrows behind his back. Very strong early sculpture, boldly carved, wonderful smiling face, excellent depiction of his military coat. Perfectly balanced - stands on its own on flat surface, netsuke of typical 18th century triangular section. Extraordinary rich patina, deep differently sized himotoshi. Superb netsuke. Unbelievable, rare Edo Period C.1860 large shop sign 'kanban' for liver medicine. It was believed if a little boy cried too much his liver needed some help. Large Japanese porcelain dish, Arita kiln, compartmentalized decoration inspired by Chinese models from the end of the Ming dynasty. In the center a flowered basket and on the edge, cartouches containing flowers and emblems are boldly drawn in underglaze cobalt blue. The reverse left without decoration. Fabulous celebratory Shinto Shrine gable carving Ca. 1850. Carved from keyaki wood, the sixteen petal chrysanthemum is the crest or mon (紋) of the Japanese emperor and is often seen displayed on Shinto shrines throughout the country. An antique Fubako, letter box, of a rarely seen design with a black ground having a flowing gold sprinkled pattern featuring wheel and wind/water designs in relief. There is also a lovely sprinkled design to the interior. The exterior bottom, which is covered when the box is closed, has the wheel designs and is very bright showing very little if any wear. Still retaining its original silk tasseled roping, this box is in superb condition...

A deliciously horrifying painting of a ghost rising from the empty field dating from the 19th century completely remounted and ready to go for another century of leering from the shadows. Ink on paper with highlights of gofun and red pigment separated from a field of blue by a single narrow strand of red and gold Kinran silk terminating in dark wood rollers. This is a rare cloisonne bowl from Gonda that features 16 wireless egrets. This bowl is stoutly made and is heavy. It measures 7 inches across and is 5 1/4" tall. The condition is very good with some expected wear. The bowl has 2 very minor, under the surface lines that can be seen in the last image.
