This very well carved ivory okimono of a Chinese merchant is a late Meiji period product. It is 5” high, 2” wide and 1 ½” thick at the thickest part. It depicts a Chinese merchant with his hands in his sleeves, resting them in front of him. The artist did a great job on his facial expression and dress which includes a typical Chinese old fashioned two piece robe and hat. His goatee and long pigtail make this merchant more interesting and realistic...

A small Japanese cloisonne container. One side is decorated with maple and cherry blossom among flowing water (known in Japanese as unkin) and the other side is chrysanthemums and flowing water (known as kikusui). The interior is covered with a brocade fabric. No signature is found on the piece. Age: Meiji Period. Size: Height: 0.5" Diameter: 1.3"

Charming Japanese antique small cloisonne vase decorated with a scene of two koi swimming in a stream under blossoming wisteria, the flowers are done in purple, pink, yellow and white, the entire scene set on a turquoise blue ground, bottom contains an image of a bell (or suzu) with the name Gokou stamped onto the bottom, Meiji Period. This solid Japanese Meiji bronze elephant is very heavy with skin and muscles modelled to a high standard. The elephant looks very animated and was obviously created by an artist of great talent. It is marked on the base with what looks to be a slightly rubbed Seiya signature. There is no damage to this piece.

Japanese Satsuma vase with various scenes from different periods in Japanese history and one view with Chinese scholars or sages. The views are framed with a motif of flowers and fans. Bottom of the vase contains a name that is impressed in the clay. The top part of name is unreadable, the bottom contains the name Satsuma ware. Age: Taisho Period. Size: Diameter: 2.75"

This yatate, or traveler's pen case, is made of wrought brass, and has a long tube to hold the brush and a deep pot for the ink, which would have been saturated in a cotton wad. The lid snaps snugly over the pot to contain the ink, and a tab connected to the lid covers the end of the tube that contains the brush. A logo is inscribed on the tab in the form of a hiragana ya beneath a roof-shaped mark...

The vases portray characteristics seen in Yokohama Satsuma wares which were produced during the latter part of the Meiji Period. Japanese small and exquisite Satsuma ware censer, unusual double gourd shape with two handles and three feet, lid with delightful fu-dog finial, one side is decorated with two scenes from 100 Rakans (Buddhist saints), the other side is decorated with two scenes of beautiful ladies, everything else is covered with tiny designs in gold, beautiful condition, Taisho Period, 6 character kanji says: Satsuma yaki, Suigetsu ga.
