Thai 14th - 15th Century Sawankhalok Celadon Bowl (19.75cm)

This stoneware bowl was made at the Sawankhalok kilns around the 14th - 15th century. It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a finely-crackled translucent celadon glaze. The inner surface has been decorated with incised parallel bands and vertical lines. The unglazed lower part of the underside has fired to a reddish-brown.

Khmer 12th Century Glazed Stoneware Jarlet

This unusually-shaped small stoneware jar was made during the 12th Century. It has a globular body that flares down into a relatively wide foot with a flat base. The body is decorated with four groups of three vertically incised parallel lines. Around the mouth is a serrated edge.

An Annamese blue and white shallow bowl with floral design and with dark cobalt blue tone. Good condition with only a tiny chip to unglazed rim, no crack and free from any restoration. Diameter: 24.1 cm.

In the mid 15th C a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the “Dragon’s Embrace.” Around 1994 local fishermen began finding pottery in their nets. This is a beautiful little round porcelain box from the now famous Hoi An shipwreck. This one is roughly 6.3 cm in diameter. It has little sea creatures still stuck to the underside - visible in the last enlargement.

Covered box with a blue-and-white underglaze painting of geometric panels and a foliate center. A very similar example can be seen in the book “A Pocket Guide to Oriental Ceramics in the Philippines” page 80; plate 30 or exhibit 30. Measurements: height 4.5cm, width 6.5cm. Rare cream colored glazed Myanmar bowl with incised lotus and flared rim design circa 13th/14th CE, found at the Tak Hilltop Burial Site along the border of Burma and Thailand. I bought this about 20 years ago, now you cannot find these anymore. There are 3 repairs on the rim. Of these white wares from Burma, I have only seen one unrestored piece. D: 17.7cm/7in and H: 7.5cm/2.9in.

Thai 14th - 15th Century Underglazed Footed Stoneware Box

This footed round stoneware box was made during the 14th - 15th century at the Sawankhalok kilns. It is decorated with scrolling and geometric patterns in underglaze iron-brown with a clear blueish and finely-crackled glaze. The inner surface of the box is coated with same clear blueish glaze.

This is a large example of its type with a diameter of 13 cm...

Two Genuine SONG Period, SAWANGKALOKE-SISACHANALAI, SIAMESE-THAI iron brown glazed jarlets, both with 2 intact loops and horizontal incised ringed ribbing towards the top, 14-16th Century. The bases are not glazed. Size: height ~13 cm (~5 1/4"). Good overall condition, no cracks etc. Price: US$ 195 EACH, or $ 375.00 for both, excluding shipping.

Large Sawankhalok covered box from 14th-16th century with ribbed lid and base & blues and browns in under-glaze with clear design. There is visible damage to the inside rim of base and to the lid. A set of Khmer brown glazed pottery lime-pot in the form of owl with a stepped, moulded beak, eyes and tail.

This kind of lime-pot was mainly used in Khmer people's daily life in the ancient time, as can be seen on the stone sculpture on the wall of Bayon and Angkor Vat Prasart (Temple).

Provenance: This superb condition massive celadon charger / dish was recovered from the Royal Nanhai (AD. c.1460) shipwreck. The dating was based on carbon 14 analysis of the ships timber and by cross-referring the ceramic cargo to other datable shipwreck sites...

In northern Vietnam the ceramic industry had been developing under Chinese influence and especially the art of blue & white glaze was excellent just comparable with YUAN DYNASTY pieces.They used the　cobalt glaze imported from Persian so coloring of blue is very beautiful. 「福」Chinese letter　means "happiness". Large Thai Sawankhalok round form covered stoneware box in the shape of a mangosteen fruit decorated in iron-black/brown glaze on a buff-colored ground with a zig-zag pattern on the lid and stylized scrolling vines on the bottom. Stem finial. 14th to 16th century. 4 3/4” diameter x 4” high. Very good overall condition. There is a tiny pinhead-sized flea bite on the bottom section at the edge of the rim (see image). The lid matches well and appears to be original...

A superb and genuine IRON BROWN-BLACK GLAZED SAWANGKALOKE-SRICHANALAI JARLET WITH LIP, 14-16th CENTURY. VERY GOOD CONDITION OVERALL. SIZE: height 5.5 cm x 5 cm diameter. Provenance: found in the Musi River, close to Palembang City, which was the Capital of the SRIVIJAYA KINGDOM and which had a vast trading network with China and Siam.
