A rare and beautifully made lime pot with a crackle glaze. The lime in these pots helped to soften the betel nut, making it easy to chew. This Indonesian container would have been carried by a man using the handmade string as a shoulder strap. The "purse" was hand carved out of a local hardwood and both the top and bottom have decorative details.
The container sits stably on it base but can also be hung on the wall as an interesting sculpture artifact.
Approximately 9 inches high, 7.5 inches across and 4 inches deep.

A dish with broad cavetto, decorated in underglaze iron-brown over a cream slip with a spotted fish in the center medallion, and regular dash marks bordered by double lines on the rim. Five spurs mark on the center and base unglazed. Very attractive bronze seated Disciple/Monk holding alms bowl in his left hand, which rests on his leg and gracefully helping himself with his right hand. This monk is the disciple Mahakasyapa who was particularly close to Buddha. In the tradition of the Zen-masters, Kassapa was the first monk to receive from the Buddha "without word or writing" the unspeakable highest truth of the Dharma.
