Children in Japan will sometimes attempt to summon the Baku in the middle of the night to devour their nightmares and motifs of him are commonly found in bedrooms. All hand-carved with incredible attention to detail. Mounted on a high quality custom iron stand. Edo age (1615- 1868)

Charming Chinese Ming Dynasty painting of a pair of cats sitting under a branch of blossoming peonies. The larger of the two cats, a calico, has his eyes fixed on a butterfly. The other cat, a wild eyed tabby, crouches with a large spider in his mouth. Wonderfully painted with great detail and whimsy. Mineral colors and ink on silk with silk mounting (was once a scroll). Antique Japanese fan painting of a single bat in sumi-e ink on paper. Signed by the artist. The painting is 18th century, later mounted as a scroll. The surface of the painting is very unusual and has a slight opalescent quality.

Antique Chinese scroll painting of a dramatic waterfall. The water crashes over tiers of craggy rock formations. On one rock two scholarly figures stand and contemplate the scene. Painted in black ink and light colors on paper. Margins on either side of the painting are full of calligraphy. Signed Fu Bao Shi (1904-1965)

A simple, four lobed armorer's tsuba with simple pierced decoration perhaps depicting a landscape with structure. The udenuki-ana (cord holes) have the effect of completing the illusion of a Sesshu-like landscape. The saotome were armorers turned tsuba makers who worked in this manner and scale. Good condition with good tekkotsu. Sengoku era. 2 15/16 (7.46 cm) inches x 2 5/8 (6.67 cm) inches

A pair of very small translucent pale blue-green glass earrings most likely for a child.. The glass is in the form of a medium-thick oval hoop that tapers at the ends. There is some soil encrustation on the surface from being buried.These come from Vietnam or Cambodia. Size: Diameter: 1.7cm. Condition: Very good.

An 18th Century white glazed porcelain figure of Budai, probably made in the Jingdezhen kilns, Jiangxi province, southern China.Condition - there is chipping to the left sleeve of his robe and a very small chip to the upper lip; no cracks and no restoration. 11.5cm (4.5 inches) high; 14cm (5.5inches) wide.

Chinese green glazed pottery stove with silvery surface.

The silvery surface is also called "mercury glaze". This silvery precipitation is the result of chemical changes in the lead glaze caused by prolonged burial in the tomb. Greenware became popular during the Eastern Han period.

This is a very fine, flattened, rounded rectangular form Snuff Bottle with a round, elongated neck, rounded sloping shoulders, and raised flat elongated oval footing. Made of Hard JET. The bottle is very light. This must have been the reason that the carver has left 1/4 of the bottom non hollowed to give the bottle a little weight and stability...
