This is a Qing dynasty porcelain bee hive shaped water pot. It is sometimes referred to taibo zun or qizhao (chicken coop) in Chinese. The only difference for this piece is that this bee hive water pot does not have a neck with a small mouth. The domed shaped body has a countersunk base which is unglazed exposing the fine white colour porcelain. The pokka dot glazing makes the water pot glazing quite unusual and possibly a scarce item...

This is a Tibetan Ritual Celestial Crown also know as a Diadem or Ringga. It is worn by a necromancer or oracle during rituals. The "crown" consists of 5 separate paintings on paper and each painting is backed with thin cardboard for stiffness. The sections are connected with string. When worn, the crown is tied around the head with string. The sections are painted with the five Dhayani, celestial Buddhas, each painted with his traditional color and gesture...

Japanese antique folk hina dolls, zuishin, the imperial guardsmen and escorts from the Heian period (794-1185). They are often called Daijin minister dolls. The dolls used to belong to the Hina festival (Matsuri) for Girl’s Day. The size of the dolls are 10" tall to the tips of the arrows.

This traditional antique basket purse was made and used by the men of the tiny island of Balika,Indonesia. The patina shows both the age and the wear pattern. This is one of a pair of "old purses" which were brought back to the US by an Anthropology intern who spent a summer studying and documenting the lives of the islanders in 1980. This is a late Qing dynasty pufu or surcoat with a rank badge. The pufu is make of silk gauze or kesi for the summer and a heavier satin-silk, sometimes lined with fur, for the winter. The rank badge with the embroidered silvery pheasant is that of a fifth grade or rank of the civil official. It is represented as standing on the pedestal rock facing and looking towards the sun, the imperial symbol of authority...

Suspended from a small leather belt loop, this old Mongolian pipe pouch has trekked a long way. This ethnographic relic was clearly hand-made, with a simple closure of leather thongs tied into a traditional knot, and a few beads add a decorative element. For pipe cleaning, there is added piece of twisted metal wire decorated with green thread. Approx 12" long and about 3" at the widest point. This is a small porcelain brush washer in the shape of a half persimmon with large scallop rim in mat gold colour. The interior is glazed in uneven turquoise colour. This is a late Qing dynasty piece probably of the early 20th century.

There is no crack, chip, glaze fritting, repair or restoration. There is only a minor firing fault as shown in picture no. 6 and minor bubble burst on one of the bud. Overall, it is in good condition.

This small elaborate Buddhist monk's medicine bottle is sewn into a larger pouch of burgundy homespun wool fabric with yellow/gold silk lining. When worn, the stopper would be securely held in the bottle by a system of handmade cords and bands. The medicine bottle would be worn outside the robes and suspended on the Monk's belt. These were used for both travel and ceremonies.

This small hinged metal case is covered with leather and opens to display both red ink pot and personal ivory chop. The person's name on the base of the chop is clearly carved. Leather in old China was very expensive...the owner of this chop must been a person of both status and wealth. The leather shows age but is intact and set is in very good condition. The case measures 2.5" X 1+" This is a rare old piece.

This is a wonderfully detailed silver needle case which was worn hanging from the belt. It has it's original long leather thong and silk tassel. Rare quality nobori Japanese banner for Boy’s day; beautiful hand-dyed work of the samurais on cotton. The nobori banners were originally used in the battlefields to shift the troops and to show the warriors the location of their generals. This is a terrific bronze bell from the Khmer culture in ancient Viet Nam or Thailand (circa 1200 AD). It weighs 250 grams and measures 6.8cm across the opening. It shows no signs of repair or restoration. It has a fantastic green/blue patina and there are even remnants of cloth or wood fibers mineralized in the surface.

This is a very nice pottery vessel from the Ban Chiang culture in ancient Thailand, Udon Province (circa 200 BC). It has very intricate, geometric designs typical of Ban Chiang pieces. The designs are both incised into the clay and then painted. Incised and painted, pedestaled pottery is one of the rarest types.
