Chinese export porcelain serving bowl featuring a traditional Canton scene on the lid with a pine cone finial. The matching scene is also featured inside the bottom of the bowl. The outside of the bowl has the traditional floral design. Condition is considered to be very good to excellent. There are some firing glaze pops and areas of missing glaze around the rim of the bowl, common for these pieces. Possibly some small after firing chips, but very hard to tell if that is the case...

Charming Japanese school desk in a long bench style, with coat hangers on each side. The top of the desk has an inkwell and a dip for storing pens. The desk's surface has multiple carvings done by school children, such as an arrow through a heart containing a short love sentiment in kanji. Antique Japanese tansu with 7 exterior drawers of various sizes. The lower right hand side has a safe box door with 2 small interior drawers. Made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. Hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls, heavy lock plates and hinges.

9" 19th century Kakiemon plates, slightly rounded, with blue flower baskets over blue underglaze. There are blue sprays on the undersides, each bears a Fuku mark.

Condition: Excellent, no chips, hairlines or repairs.

This nicely carved jade (jadeite) pendant is 2 ½” long, 1 ½” wide and ¼” thick. It is a late 19th or early 20th century product. It is carved on both sides as a twisted RuYi (如意) scepter with LingZhi (靈芝) ends surrounded by a small unknown plant. A small lucky bat is sitting on top of the carving. It is in great condition.

 

A rare late Edo Period four-panel silverized Japanese Screen. A fine scholar's composition of bamboo, rocks, and a swallow in flight. A beautifully painted sumi, with a fine oxidized silverized patina. It appears to have the original brocade frame. The screen is in extraordinary condition for its age. A superb, museum quality screen and an important find. Height: 40 inches, 101.5 cm; Width: 72 inches, 183 cm.

Massive Chinese late Qing dynasty finely carved root wood figural group mounted on a tripod root wood stand featuring the immortal Li Tieguai (“Iron Crutch Li”) in a dancing pose at the center flanked by two immortals. Li Tieguai holds an unidentified object in one hand while the attendants each hold a peach. Arms, legs, some heads, and the figures themselves can all be removed from the stand to facilitate shipping. Circa 1900. 52” high. Good overall condition...

During the Edo period, the women of the Samurai class carried a pouch in their chest area (right above the obi belt) when they were dressed up in formal kimonos. The pouch was folded into a skinnier shape and accented with a nice tie. Carried inside were the beni ita (today's lipstick), a mirror, tissues, kanzashi, coins, etc. The chains were added to the kanzashi (hair ornament) sometime later...

Rare Large Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Glazed Buddhist Zodiac Jar

This very rare pottery jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) and has been been excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province.

It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been coated in a green glaze that is very thin in places.

Around the waist of the jar have been applied twelve mouldings, the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac...

Unusual late Meiji to early Taisho (1910s) Japanese multimetal obidome (sash ornament) with engraved design of chrysanthemum flower with bud and leaves, and a textile spread for a picnic. Obidome is worn on an obi cord that holds the obi sash together, it is the only type of jewelry worn by Japanese women on formal occasions, and could serve as netsuke as well.
