Composite panel of antique Ottoman embroideries, made into a rectangular shaped woman’s prayer cloth indicating qibla, the direction of prayer. Made in the Ottoman city of Salonika or Kavala. The basic fabrics are different plain weaves, embroidered with silk and silver wrapped threads, crocheted together. Two patches with a kind of floral needle weaving. Bordered with a green ribbon and later lining. Condition: stained and flawed areas, missing threads, faded. Dimension: 159.5 cm x 98 cm.

The ground fabric was certainly made in China. The ends of the shawl are finely embroidered in multi-colored silk yarn. The embroidery is identical on both surfaces. An antique ceramic bowl that was made in Nishapur during the 10th century A.D. (4th Century A.H.) in the style of the Tang dynasty. It is decorated with splashes of green, yellow, and brown glaze in the Chinese Tang-dynasty sancai style. The bowl is made of red earthenware, with a white slip, incised engobe, and decoration in the sgraffito technique.

CONDITION: repaired clean breaks and small areas of restoration.

This is an exceptional example of a bronze sword from ancient Luristan (circa 1000BC). It has a choice patina and is very clean overall. The handle would have been inlaid with bone, wood or ivory which is now long gone. Three original rivets remain in the handle and at least one of them moves freely back and forth without falling out. This is a fantastic, antennae hilted, bronze age sword found in Northern India. The patina suggests a high copper content. This museum quality piece measures roughly 495mm and weighs 523 grams. The blade is 8mm thick in the center and the antennae are roughly 12 mm thick. The measurement between the outer edges of the antennae is 8.5cm. The blade edge is jagged but the metal is solid and stable with no signs of repair. This is a very rare sword that needs to be in your collection!

Small antique tribal Persian chanteh (bag). Hand woven of wool in lovely deep indigo blue and brown. A central rectangle of deep blue has six vertical bands of white with interlocking motifs perhaps of rams horns, a powerful masculine symbol. Framing this is a wide dark brown band which is subtly woven with repeating protective eye motifs. The back of the bag is woven a solid deep brown color. Circa 1900. Size: 17" wide x 13" high
