Large Chinese Neolithic Machang Painted Pottery Jar

This impressive pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. It is quite "heavily-potted" with a smooth surface and is fairly highly-fired. It has a short neck with flared mouth, and two sturdy loop handles on opposing sides at the waist...

This is a great little Japanese satsuma vase. It is highly detailed and the 40 or so children are all very expressive. Amazingly the vase stands only 3 inches tall. This is truly a wonderful micro-detailed piece and I believe it was made with the beautiful and tough mercury fired gold. You will need glasses to appreciate all the fine detail. It is partially signed on the bottom and minutely signed in a banner held by one of the children...

A lovely old silver and torquise mounted Conch shell, Tibet, 18th.-19th. century.

Attractive and substantial Buddhist antique. Thick silver folliage mount with animals and a demon masks. Mounted with torquise stones, one missing.

Size: Approx 22 cm. long and 10,5 cm. wide, weighing a good 680-700 grams.

1900's Chinese Silk Embroidered Lady's Robe with Farmer & Water Buffalo

It is 53.4 inches (135.7 cm) from sleeve to sleeve, 25.9 inches (66 cm) armpit to armpit, and 55.7 inches (41.57 cm) collar to bottom. It is 1.3 Lb.

It has frayed silk, frayed collar, stains, loose and pulling of threads, and discolorations (as seen in the photos).

Antique Aka Raku Chawan by greatest Kichizaemon Tan-nyu, ennobled with a REAL kintsugi gold repair.

Half cylinder shaped (Hanzutsu) tea bowl with a rounded brim, in the typical hand built style of the Raku family. The body is fully covered with a white engobe before the red glaze was applied.

The red glaze turned to to grey where it got in contact with charcoal in the kiln...

Small shrine with the sculpture of Kishimojin, the hands folded in prayer. Plain wood with nice patina, the pupils painted black. On the back inscription in black ink. On the right door of the case inscription in black ink: Angyo Kishimosonjin, the name of the temple and the donor. The inscription on the back of the sculpture is partly the same, indicating that sculpture and case came together. Japan, early 19th century.

Japanese antique two section large choba tansu (merchant's chest) from the Kansai area, made with hinoki (Japanese cypress wood) with a beautiful natural finish. The top section has sliding panels made with keyaki burl (elm) and 4 drawers. The bottom section has 3 large drawers and another set of sliding panels with horizontal slats. The lower right hand side has a small drawer below which is a safe box with two interior drawers. The hardware is iron with warabite shaped handles...

Ancient Chinese Buddhist Stone Panel, Dharma Wheel - Song / Yuan Dynasty

This stone panel, sometimes described as a "prayer tablet", was excavated from a Buddhist site in Yunnan province in the South-West of China and dates to the 13th to 14th century, i.e. the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) or possibly the early Ming Dynasty...

Length approximately 18.2 cm (across the handles). Weight: the censer approximately 1.5 kg, and the stand approximately 850 g. Height approximately 9.3 cm. A soft dent at the body. In good condition.

An Akan gilt metal gold weight cast as a bird on round tapering base. The Akan gold weights are quite unique in the world for their forms. Their weights are so distinguished by their shape that they are now considered decorative art forms only few inches in size. Historically, they were used for measuring gold dust, which was circulating as currency in Ghana and Ivory Coast among the Akans from the 15th until the end of the 19th century. Measures 2.75 inches high and dates late 1800s.

This is a beautiful Meiji era Cloisonne vase. It is larger than most of these intricate panel vases and stands 7 1/2 inches tall. Looks great, but does have a tiny craze line in the right upper corner of one blue panels.

Lovely lot with some very elaborately knapped types in different kinds of fine stones. The lot includes early types from c. 10.000 BC or earlier to perhaps as late as 2000 BC, more research is needed to accurately date each point...

Etruscan bowl of shallow form with two vertical ribs and false cord decoration on the inward sloping rim. The single handle is marked with grooves. Set on a high flared foot.

Antique Japanese Ko Tansu (personal storage chest). Made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. This small tansu has 5 drawers; three in a vertical row over two smaller drawers side by side. The hardware was hand made all of iron and includes round lock plates on each drawer and Kakute handles. The drawers are additionally reinforced by corner foliate decorative hardware.

Age: Late Edo Period (circa early 1800's)

Dimensions: 22 1/2" high x 22 3/4" wide x 12 1/4" deep

A good early 18th Century Japanese Ko Imari dish made for export to the Western market decorated with an eight pointed star constructed from two squares. Eight is an auspicious number in oriental iconography, associated with such groups of auspicious motifs as the Eight Precious Objects, the Eight Trigrams and the eight-fold path of Buddhism. The central octagonal reserve contains a Dragon and clouds, Unryu, with reserves to the rim Foo Dogs and Peonies, Shishi ni Botan, Hoo Birds and Paulownia...

Exceptional carving of Kannon Bosastu or Bodhisattva the goddess of compassion and mercy. She holds a lotus in her left hand symbolizing purity and ability to rise from the mud to transform into a beautiful flower. She stands on a stand of lotus pedals with large lotus leaves. To the side are buddhist clouds. Painted in the Edo Period c. 1860, some of the colors have worn away and the right foot is chipped off. Hinoki wood. Comes in paulownia wood box.
