Good Bhutan hand spun blanket. I bought this from a Bhutanese woman sitting at the bottom of the trail to original Tiger Nest, in 1995. Simple but stunning wool embroidered floral and foliate medallions. Made with soft wool (very warm), comprised of two panels, perfect condition. Width: 93cm/37.5in and Length: 158cm/62in.
DESCRIPTION: A large and masterfully carved Chinese shou shan stone (soapstone) seal in tall rectangular form, the knob carved with a crouching dragon having both wings tucked back covering its sides, and whose mouth is poised to grasp the sacred pearl. On each flat surface of the base are engraved inscriptions and characters among idyllic scenes of rivers with boats, hills, houses and pavilions. Lovely ivory netsuke depicting the sparrow Fukura Suzume, a small symbolic bird associated with various legends and stories of Japanese folklore.
The netsuke is associated with various legends and stories, including that of “The sparrow with the tongue cut out” (舌切り雀, “Shitakiri Suzume”).
The netsuke is signed Masanao 正直 within an oval reserve under the base.

This antique molded gourd cricket case has a tight fitting rosewood lid. In China, during the Qing dynasty, crickets were considered household pets, and they were also used for fighting contests and, betting was a regular part of the fight scene.

Unusual late Meiji period (1890s -1912) wooden sashi netsuke in a form of a pillar, its top carved as a face of the Zen Patriarch Daruma wearing monk’s cape. Wonderful face with severe expression, carved out of chosen matsu (Korean pine wood) in ittobori (one cut) style characteristic of Hida school of netsuke carvers, eyes are inlaid with metal. Himotoshi (cord opening) goes through the bottom to the back of the netsuke. Beautiful patina, very pleasant to hold. Height 4.2 inches.

A Korean lacquered box used to hold the ink stone and writing implements that were used during the Joseon Dynasty. Such a box was made by and for the common man or farmer and is a good example of Korean Folk Art. The box's lid fits over an inner tray where the ink stone and water dropper were kept. Below the tray would be stored ink sticks, paper and brushes. The box's finish is the original dark red lacquer, and the iron nails and straps are also original and hand made...
Impressive antique Kuro Raku Chawan, over 100 years old, by great artist Rintaro Ohashi with family crest. The bowl was made in Taishō era 8 (1919), its also written on the inside of the lid. I comes with the originally signed and sealed wooden box.
