This traditional tribal comb would be worn for festival by Yao ethnic minority woman of Southern China. The comb was carved from sections of bone which are held together with a twining technique. The bone sections are tatooed with traditional Yao design pattern. The comb alone is 5.5 inches long and 3 inches wide. The combined length with the pompom and tassels is almost 12 inches long.

Condition: good - considering the delicate nature of enamel, rim of box with two very small retouchings and and sides of lid with three tiny enamel losses and few stress lines. Vera Cruz Warrior. Mexico. Circa. 600-900 A.D. 15 ¼” Hollow molded terra cotta, standing warrior with one hand raised showing an open palm. The other wields a large, trapezoidal shield and he wears a sleeveless vest, belt and a long loin cloth. With prominent teeth, sleepy eyes and a well formed nose. Restored from a dozen or so large pieces with restoration over the break lines. Rear, third, support leg reattached with visible gluing and edge losses.
