A fine snuff tobacco container made of a dried, double gourd, decorated with gilt silver mounts and inset with carnelian and tiny blue and white cabochons. The ram horn-shapped stopper is attached to an elaborate silver chain. These tobacco containers were used by the Turkman tribes. Condition: fine, few traces of usage. A pair of extremely rare small porcelain dishes decorated with "qianjiang cai （淺絳彩）”， depicting a scene of rice transplanting on one dish, and a scene of rice harvest on another. Qianjiang Cai was a kind of enamel similar to Famille Rose, it was favored by Chinese scholars in late Qing Dynasty. Some researches said it was created in Xianfeng period, others argued that the using of this enamel should be as early as Daoguang period...

An unusual Japanese Keyaki burl front bar tansu. The drawer faces are each labeled in Japanese kanji. The top "drawer" is actually a lift away panel. The middle two drawers are slightly recessed behind a vertical locking bar with ornate iron plates. The lowermost drawer face has a middle iron lock plate continuously below the locking bar. When the bar is removed, more kanji is written in sumi ink, possibly with the identity of the original owner...

Antique betel nut box from the Philippines, composed of brass and nickel, with separate hinged compartments for the storage of various implements. The leftmost compartment is built up with slaked lime, which releases the alkaloids in the betel nut. The practice of betel nut chewing is common in many parts of South Asia. Slices of the areca nut would be wrapped in betel leaves and chewed, giving a mild stimulant effect.

This Hongshan jade circle amulet/pendant/tailsman/ring is from Northeastern China and is 1 5/8" long and 5/16" wide. Size 10 ring. The surface has been cleaned by buffing from a modern finder to accent the quality of the material which removed some of the original surface and left machine buffing marks, but it is an authentic, high quality piece. The jade is translucent and the carving was very difficult to achieve. It has wonderful patina. It dates to 6700BP-4900BP...

This is a very beautiful and stylish Japanese Cloisonne vase. It looks like it could have been made a piece made by Kawaguchi Bunzaeoman but it is signed with a tiny script by Ota. It was primarily created in the basse-taille style with traditional cloisonne then used with the flowers and leaves. The vase is heavy for its size and the enamel is thickly applied. A pair of small bronze foo dogs or foo lions created by the lost-wax casting process, showing traces from the mold. Both have a wonderful warm patina and would make excellent brush rests for a calligrapher's or artist's detail brushes. In excellent condition, they measure about 2" long x 1.5 inches high.

DESCRIPTION: A red and gilt ink cake in the form of a turtle with a curled snake on its back. In ancient China, the tortoise and the snake were thought to be spiritual creatures symbolizing longevity. Both the front and back have been finely pressed in raised relief with gilt accents. One of the treasures of the Chinese scholar’s studio, this ink cake is in excellent condition, in its original box, and dates from the first quarter of the 20th C. or earlier. Chinese hardwood cabinet made with Jumu (elm) or "chicken wing" wood and brass pulls and mounts. The double front doors showcase the dramatic natural grain. 19th century Japanese silver two pronged kanzashi - a hair pin - with ear pick spoon on the terminal and decoration of a sacred key and Daikoku’s magic mallet. Excellent and clever piece implying a wish of wealth to the owner, with superb quality work - see the incised wood texture of the mallet. I did not test the metal, but confident that it is silver, the sacred key is gilded. Some tarnished areas, can be cleaned if needed. Length 6 3/4 inches.

Antique Japanese hand scroll painting of Legends of Mount Shigi based on a painting called Shigisan-engi.
