These are very unique Japanese zuishin dolls from the late Edo period (1603-1868). The dolls are commonly called Daijin minister dolls but they are actually figures of the Toneri, the imperial guardsmen and escorts from the Heian period (794-1185). The clothing of the dolls is rich and elaborate just like Kabuki actors on stage...

Japanese indigo cotton fireman's coat, with sashiko stitching and freehand paste resist decoration (tsutsugaki) of a cherry blossom, overlapping rings and striations. The front of the coat has four kanji characters on the lapel, and the inside of the coat is resist dyed with geometric designs and a round central emblem.

An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu (stacking chest on chest) made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged hardware including the Warabite style handles. The security door hides 2 drawers where valuables were kept. Constructed using straight dovetail Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails.

This Antique woven basket was typical of the baskets used in the kitchens of Hunan Province China. This particular style would have been used for rice storage...The red and black lacquer design is painted on all 4 sides. the interior is painted black lacquer. Condition is good considering age and usage of basket as a utilitarian item ..a few nicks and chips in the paint. 12 inches in diameter across the top. 9 inches high plus another 2 inches for the handles...

Ming Dynasty (1368~1615) 3-color glazed pavilion. A bright yellow roof is supported by four columns. Around each column a dragon curls from the base to the roof. Compared to the most Ming burial pieces such as figures, furniture, horses, etc., this is an unusually rare piece. It is in excellent condition. An antique gunpowder flask called Barutdan was crafted in the 18th century in the Islamic Indo-Persian region. The flask is made of high-quality tooled tanned leather and adorned with intricate designs characteristic of the region's artistic flair.

The flask features an iron suspension loop and a leather strap. These allow it to be easily carried and used while hunting or engaging in battle.

A piece of Iyo-zome cloth which was futonji (bedding). It is made of hand-spun cotton and has katazome (stencil-resist-dye) pattern. The name Iyo-zome is originated from Iyo sudare (bamboo screen) since the pattern looks like wood grain by looking through two layers of them. Stripes are dyed with two katagami (stencil paper), one is vegetable indigo and the other is natural brown dye. Two katagami are dyed by displacing them so that they make wood grain like pattern...

Brocade lined signed Japanese lidded basket circa 1910-1920 by Suzuki Gengensai (1891-1950). In beautiful condition (the silk brocade lining has deteriorated). Signed on the underside.
