A large and attractive stone jar, Mesopotamia, Sumer c. 2800-2400 BC.

With the finely concave walls, similar to a jar found in the Royal tombs of Queen Puabi, 2600-2450 BC and jars from Jiroft in this period, dates this jar to the Sumerian period.

The stone used is a rare and very lovely pink calcite, some of the colour probably patina. the stone is banded in clear bands and semi-transperant when lighted. With cream inclusions.

This large disk-shaped ritual object from central Asia - the Bactrian-Margiana Archaeological Complex - is made of marble. An antique ceramic bowl that was made in Nishapur during the 10th century A.D. (4th Century A.H.) in the style of the Tang dynasty. It is decorated with splashes of green, yellow, and brown glaze in the Chinese Tang-dynasty sancai style. The bowl is made of red earthenware, with a white slip, incised engobe, and decoration in the sgraffito technique.

CONDITION: repaired clean breaks and small areas of restoration.
