Northern Song Dynasty Celadon bowl (Chinese or possibly Korean) with incised flower design. Nice green glaze and symmetrical shape. There are no chips or cracks. Note a couple of flaws within glaze. Diameter: 7.5 inches; height: 3 inches.
The cup has a soft velvet surface with shadows into a clear white tone. Very nice item. Provenience: The Collection of SR Parker, Esq., past president of the Southeast Asian Ceramics Society(SEACS) (1978-1980). Condition: Very good condition. Small rim frittering exist. Song Dynasty Jun ware brush shaper or brushwasher. This was originally the base of flower vase which was later reworked into a scholar’s object. The brown clay indicates this was fired in Henan and in my opinion is representative of the kind that was acquired for the Imperial Qing collection rather then the more typical bowls and saucers. The top surface has more discoloration and minor scratches which indicates, that the repurposing was done some time ago...
