Elegantly decorated vase with a geometric design of 24 facets. Meiji period, late 19th century. Sparsely painted with airy flower sprigs, leaving large parts of the cream-coloured crackle-glazed surface undecorated. The mouth rim with the mon (emblem) of the Itagaki (?) family. Impressed three character mark to the base and painted signature in red. Height "6¼ / 16 cm. Condition: fine.

Antique Japanese Buddhist Temple lantern made of gilt copper with a wooden interior armature and iron handle. This six sided lantern is decorated all over with ornate pierced karakusa, scrolling arabesque filigree. Both top and bottom of the lantern have six trapezoidal friezes, each with a three dimensional medallion in it's center depicting alternating crests of blossoms and Buddhist symbols. A very large pair of hardwood transom / temple architectural elements, elaborately carved with charming motifs of squirrels eating from grape vines. The carvings are deeply recessed with raised outside edges of a scrolling form. Realistic grape vines and leaves continue along the underside of each transom. Very heavy. Two Tibetan stem platters for ritual offerings, made from hardwood with metal sheet. The center decorated with a wheel, one of the eight Buddhist Symbols. Torma are cone shaped ritual food offerings sculpted in a variety of shapes and sizes, mostly made of flour and butter. Condition: traces of usage, one piece with an old repair (was broken in two).
