An beautifully detailed pottery figure of a MNother with her child, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD.), dating to late Ming period c. 1550-1600 AD.
The lady is clad in a large thick robe, covering the most of her head, and she is holding a newborn chikd to hear breast. She is standing on a round plint, and the glaze is torquise and dark blue colours.
Nicely painted facial details, careful thick glazing and a fine expression.

Antique Japanese Katakuchi of Old Karatsu Ware near the end of 19th century (about 120-130 years ago).

Antique Japanese ikebana basket, for display of flower arrangements. The piece is all hand-woven with bamboo with a wide rounded mouth, and squared base. The handle is made with braided thin sections of bamboo, secured at the sides with knots. The basket interior holds a striped bamboo vase.

Antique Japanese Kyo ware Chawan (Tea Bowl) with poetry made during Edo period (1603-1868).
Hand modeled, covered with yellow glaze except foot ring, with written poetry which is hardly seen due to the age.
The bowl is full of tea stain inside as a result of extensive use in the past which creates unique wabi sabi feel.

Very rare Tang Dynasty (618CE to 907CE) terra cotta wall tile depicting the face of a Zhemushou, a fierce guardian earth spirit meant to ward off evil. It is a trapezoidal shape with much of original red and black pigments intact. Some loss to the lower lip (please see enlargements). Lower W: 19cm/7.8in, upper W: 16cm/6.1in and H: 20cm/9in.

This lovely set of 5 antique Japanese blue and white porcelain sake cups was made for export during the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890-1914 which required that the name of the country of origin appear in writing on each piece of pottery or porcelain imported into the country. Each cup has the makers name on the bottom as well as the country of origin.

Tall Japanese Boy's Day banner depicting 3 samurai on horseback. Wonderfully dramatic scene with swords drawn and crashing waves on a black ground. Bright colors in paste resist dye on cotton. An lady dressed in a robe glazed in Green and Yellow Sancai colors. She is placed on plint and carries a vase in front of her chest.
She carries a hat and her hair is nicely styled. Facial details were made with fragile pigment colors of which some remains.

This is made with crepe embroidery of the Edo era, printing silk, Akita silk.
The time when this was made is the latter period of the Meiji. There is no stain dirt. The condition is good. The embroidery of four attractive cherry blossoms is impressive.

Bust portrait of an unidentified actor in the role of a half-naked samurai from a series titled "Mirror of Good and Evil Spirits" by Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900), published by Tsunoi in 4/1868.
