18th Century Japanese small antique scroll painting of a koi leaping up a waterfall. Beautifully painted with great expression, the fish leaps from the churning waters below. Painted in sumi ink on paper and mounted on lovely antique obi silk with a fan motif. Signed by the artist. 18th century (pvt. Collection purchased in Japan in early 1980's)

18th century votive Indian bronze sculpture depicting the mother goddess Durga slaying the buffalo demon, and a small figure of her mount on her left- a roaring lion - biting the side of the demon Durga is the most powerful female deity in the Hindu pantheon. She has a spear in one front hand, and is grabbing the hair of Buffalo Demon Mahishasura with the other. In her back hands Durga holds various weapons symbolic of the attributes of all the gods given to her to slay the demon...
Height approximately 22 cm. In good condition.
Polychrome bronze statuette of a group of mice around a pumpkin and a pomegranate. The five mice have a dark brown patina, while the hollowed-out gourd is dark brown and the split pomegranate is dark red.
Written in a cartouche on one of the pumpkin slices, "Shôsai Foundry" (正齊鋳, shôsai-chû).

This is a Japanese antique indigo-dyed cotton asamai-shibori textile from the Meiji period (1868-1912).
It is a maple leaves and butterflies are expressed by squeezing.
It is a very beautiful indigo-dyed Asamai Shibori fabric. No stains or damage. very good. There is a pressing cloth on the back, but there is no problem.

Samurai menpo mask with the ressei (fierce) expression, belonging to the me-no-shita "half-face" type, which stands out for its leather surface to simulate finely hammered iron.
Remarkable are the generously sized imposing nose and chin, which add a distinctive element to the face of the mask.

An antique Japanese 3 section Isho Tansu made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Upper section has two sliding doors behind which is a 1/2 split level shelf with 3 side by side drawers below. Center and bottom sections each have 2 large drawers for abundant clothes storage. All original bronze and iron hardware with an acquired original patina.

Fireman's hanten made of thick cotton and hand-stitched sashiko (quilting). It has hand painted "Edo Machi Hikeshi" (town fireman) with "Matoi" which was hold by fireman to show his own "Kumi", brigade. It also has hand painted birds and waves design inside. 19th century. Late Meiji period (1890s 1912) Japanese buffalo horn kushi (hair comb) with gold lacquer and mother of pearl decoration of buds and leaves, design continuing on both sides. Nicely made, excellent work in Japanese taste, signed MITSUSADA on the front, some insect damage as seen on photos. Length 3.34 inches. Part of East Coast collection of Japanese hair items.
A small underglaze blue decorated stem dish painted inside with three 17th/18th Centuty style cranes and outside with three bats. The stem is decorated with buddhist knots and stylized plantain leaves. To the inside of the base is the four character mark of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722) but this item was probably made later, during the 19th Century. Condition - there are two repairs to the rim, each with an associated short hairline. No further damages or restoration...
