This piece is an ancient bronze bell from southeast Asia. It is likely from the Khmer culture around the 12th century but stylistically it could be considerably older. It has a beautiful blue and green patina with traces of soil encrustations and fabric. It is approximately 7.5 cm tall, 6.8 cm wide and weighs 251 grams.

This assortment of cosmetic brushes along with the small container was originally part of a large cosmetic set which would have been commissioned for the a wealthy Japanese bridal trousseaux. This beautiful blue and white porcelain bowl is from the Ming dynasty and was recovered from an un-named shipwreck off the coast of southeast Asia. It has a small crack (visible in the photos) but is in otherwise spectacular condition. Inside the bowl is a crane in reeds and on the outside are mandarin ducks and lotus flowers. There is a small blemish on the outside from years of underwater exposure. It measures roughly 19 cm across.

An unusual pair of Satsuma earthenware vases, eight inches in height, with graduated green underglaze depicting landscapes.

A 10.8" square tray signed Teizan and sealed Kinzan, mid Meiji period, depicting an unfortunate encounter between a hawk and a goose.

Condition: Quite good overall condition, There is a faint nick and short enamel crack to the front of the tray, two small areas of enamel cracking to the reverse, and pitting usual to the period. No dents or restoration.

A late 18th century Ko Seto stoneware dish, 5" in diameter, decorated tastefully in a traditional horse eye and cobweb design.

Condition:There are two small rim chips as illustrated in the sixth photograph. The first and more serious is to the far left, the second is to the far right. The dish is otherwise excellent.

This three piece Satsuma pottery vessel is enameled entirely in shades of blue with gold accents over a very fine crackle ground. The top is decorated with a fierce dragon on a field of white, enclosed in a blue border. The small inner lid bears a scattering of blossoms. Between the banded shoulder and base of the piece, the artist has painted in fine detail a fishing hamlet. Five inches in height, this is a lovely and unusual example of blue Satsuma ware.

This antique carved wooden temple Buddha retains much of his original gilded paint. He sits on a tall base covered with the old Mon Khmer script which had been formed by scratching through the golden paint. The Buddha's head is topped with a stupa-shaped "flame" called usnisa, which symbolizes the realization of Nirvana. Perhaps that explains the soft smile and meditative expression on his face. This antique Japanese Edo Period c.1840 red bronze utsubata flower vase is actually a Japanese proverb, "Hyotan Kara Koma". Literally, 'a horse from a gourd' meaning "the unexpected can be wonderful". The base of the vase is a wisteria wrapped gourd with an old man climbing on it. It was made so his head can move. Relics of the nile is pleased to present this Mayan bowl from Guatemala, ca. 500 - 800 AD. The bowl features solid color with an excellent, detailed design of chiefs that repeats around the circumference of the piece. The bowl remains in solid condition and the body remains intact with the exception of some chipping on the rim that has been slightly repaired in one place. The bowl measures 6" in diameter and has evidence of extensive usage, good root marks and mineral deposits.

A bride of the Yi Chinese Ethnic Minority in Yunnan Province, would have worn the "cock" hat for her wedding day. Beautiful art work of Tosa Mitsutoki* embroidered with a theme from the Noh play "Takasago" on an antique fukusa, a Japanese gift cover. The signature, seal and other characters are embroidered. To find a signature on a fukusa from this period (late Edo) is very rare; in fact, I have never seen one.
