This is an exquisite antique cosmetic jar that dates back to the 19th century and originates from the Bengali region of India. The jar is designed in the shape of a barrel, with a rounded body and three plain legs to support the bowl.

The frog (kaeru) is associated with luck and wealth. Kaeru means both "frog" and "coming home" in Japanese. This extension of meaning is due to the ability of the frog to return each year to the pond of its birth. A gong in the shape of a frog can thus sometimes be used as a door hammer or to protect a house.

This Satsuma ware tea caddy is made in the shape of a lacquer natsume tea caddy for use in the tea ceremony as a container for powdered green tea. 19th century Japanese sword menuki of Benkei carrying a huge temple bell on his back, currently mounted as a pin. Benkei was a famous 12th century yamabushi (warrior priest), and one of his daring exploits was the theft of the bell of Miidera which he carried to his monastery on the top of the hill.. Very clever design, wonderful detailing, metal appears to be silver with gold wash (worn). Height 1 inch.

The kohl etui worked of ruby velvet with raised embroidery in couched metal lamellae, the sides are sewn together.
