A large hanging Japanese scroll of Daruma the founder of Zen Buddhism that dates to Circa 1900. Duruma has been painted in red and black, on fine silk, and mounted as a scroll using gold threaded brocade borders. The scroll ends are made of a tropical hardwood. The scroll has been signed and marked with the Seal of Kano Sanroka. The scroll measures about 21 3/4" x 80", and the picture by itself measures about 16" x 44". The condition is good...

Antique Indian painting of a holy man seated upon a throne, identified by the halo around his head, a line of followers standing before him. The first man in line bestows a ceremonial gift, painted with gilt pigment. Two men stand out of line with a domesticated jaquar. Arabic writing decorates the top and the bottom of the painting. This embroidery panel was originally the front bodice of a dress...Hand embroidered over several layers of heavy fabric and using mirrors and silver and gold metallic threads...this dress bodice was a show piece probably used only for important occasions i.e. weddings etc. Very ornately embroidered, this panel measures 19 x 22 inches. the picture of the back side of the bodice indicates serious wear and age...

Antique Japanese tanzaku, a long rectangular panel with beautiful calligraphy, by famous poet Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875). The poem translates into this:
This being New Year's Day, to the fields my heart is drawn, may there be young pines to be pulled.

Early 20th century Gabbeh wide runner. All natural dyes about 6cm missing off the ends and one old repair. L: 262cm/103 and W: 103cm/40.5in. There is some simple Arabic script at the top, but I cannot translate it.

A zitan wood brush washer or water coupe decorated with carved pine branches. Late Qing Dynasty. The washer is in excellent condition. Approximately 5-1/2"L X 4-1/4"W.

Description:

A straight bamboo stalk was well shaped into a useful walking stick.
In very good condition,the bamboo stick was preserved with nice patina and can be as firm as being used now. A new plastic plug was added at the tip.

DESCRIPTION: This Chinese scholar’s brush is a simple brush crafted from a mottled bamboo handle, very thick bristles, and a shaped, dark horn ferrule. The brush, dating from the early 20th Century, is in very good condition and would be perfect for display in a medium to smaller sized brush pot. DIMENSIONS: 9 5/8” long (24.5 cm).

Old wooden stand acquired from a US expat estate in 1987, this was made between 1950 and 1980. The legs are inserted. Minor natural “check” in the top, and this piece is sort of shaped like Australia (no extra charge). 14cm/5.5in x 10cm/4cm and 4cm/1.6in.

Early 20th Century rose quartz carving of 2 beauties. Made of one piece, it is difficult to find a double figure carving like this. Presented on a custom rosewood stand, this rose quartz carving has really nice details that we were not able to fully capture with a camera. It is much nicer in person and you won't be disappointed. In excellent condition, it measures on stand 10-1/2" high x 5" wide x 2". Carving alone measures 9-1/8" high.

A large root-wood sculpture made of a single piece of burnished and lacquered cypress or perhaps rosewood. Dramatic details. All in all very decorative piece for the scholar’s studio. China, early 20th cent. H 55 cm, W 40 cm. Condition: Excellent.
