Beautiful women’s apron style skirt from the Bahnar (Ba Na) ethnic group, Central Highlands of Vietnam. Woven from fine handspun cotton using all indigo and natural dyes. The weaving is very intricate and refined. This piece is has small tear at the corner (see last enlargement) and a couple of frays but otherwise excellent condition and dates to 1960 to 1970. An unusual Kakiemon dish the outer register finely painted with the Shochikubai. The pine, bamboo and prunus painted separately with elongated trailing branches growing from rockwork. The centre painted with a single bough of flowering Camellias, Tsubaki, symbolic of the season of Spring. The reverse painted with a continuous vine arabesque, karakusa and four supur marks arranged in a "Y" shape. An identical dish is to be found in the Sakaida (Kakiemon) family collection...

This dish is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a design of three men playing a game of “go.” It was recovered from a shipwreck site in the Southern Philippines off the coast of Mindanao. This is one of the most significant Japanese satsuma pieces ever created. This is a museum piece with fabulous workmanship in combination with a very large size. 19th century Japanese tsuishu (cinnabar lacquer) netsuke, the front with a scene of a scholar reading a book by a low table under a pine tree with a view of a distant mountain. The back is carved with a scholar walking in a garden among trees and flowers. Both scenes have finely carved various brocade patterned backgrounds. A rare Chinese Sancai ewer from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), featuring a rounded shape with a dual strap handle and spout.

The ewer is adorned with a variegated sancai glaze, displaying hues of amber and green set against a cream background. It stands at a height of 9.5 cm and spans 15 cm in width.

The overall condition is excellent, with only a minor glaze chip observed at the bottom edge of the spout.

Japanese Edo period round-form bronze kagami (mirror) decorated in high relief with a finely detailed motif of crane and its young among pines. The perforated boss in the center, which holds a tassel, is in the form of a minogame (tortoise). There is an inscription at one side (see enlargement 6). We are unsure of the precise dating, but confirm it dates no later than Edo period (pre-1868). 4 3/4" diameter with a 3/4" high rim. Very good overall condition with typical wear for its age...

Early 19th century iron Japanese sword set of fuchi (bordering piece between the sword guard and the handle) and kashira (metal pommel at the end of the hilt of a sword) with relief design, respectively, of rhinoceros beetle by ivy leaves, and a spider in its web. Excellent quality work with multimetal inlays, great design, beautiful wear and patina. Kashira length 1.33 inches, fuchi length 1.46 inches.
