19th century/Meiji period Japanese bone paper knife/page turner with low relief carving of a butterfly in flight above 2 branches of morning glory, one of the in bloom. Very nice quality carving, red ink highlights. Great patina, signed GYOKUSAI on the back, pleasant to hold, good desk object. Length 6 1/2 inches.

Wonderful simple piece appropriate for a scholar’s desk, beautiful transparent glass, very pleasant finish to the surface. The bottom is carved with two raised characters, old dried sea paste in the grooves. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1 (photo is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). Height 1 1/4 inches, 3/8 inches square.

It is a scene that became obsolete as new technologies, such as trains, trucks and the creations of dams, developed. It is hand painted on silk with an artist’s signature and seal. We will bring more photos once the obi is flattened from the Nagoya style obi – currently, this obi is being worked on (hand sewn) by a professional.

This is a beautiful Meiji era Cloisonne vase. It is larger than most of these intricate panel vases and stands 7 1/2 inches tall. Looks great, but does have a tiny craze line in the right upper corner of one blue panels.
