Lid is carved with a scene of two elderly sages in a rocky landscape with trees and a bridge. The sides are carved overall with a diamond pattern. The interior and base are lacquered black. Some minor age cracks and retouched chips to the interior rim, minor retouching of red lacquer to the rims of the lid and box bottom. General wear—all consistent with and indicative of its age.

A rather striking Chinese derived pattern of Shou Lao and the Eight Immortals painted in a wucai, five colour, palette. The central mikomi painted with an amalgam of a Feiyu, Flying fish dragon, and a conventional dragon, rather than a true Feiyu, which would have had a pair of fins and fish tail rather than legs and conventional tail of this example. Imari ware porcelain soba choko (soba noodle dipping cups) from the mid-Edo Period (1600-1868.) H.5.5cm(2.2") Dia.7cm(2.6".) This pair features underglaze cobalt blue pattern with two of the three friends of winter; pine and plum (the other being bamboo,) front and back of each cup. Abbreviated brushstrokes give these cups an aesthetic of simple beauty. Soba choko were initially used for small morsels of food, much like mukozuke or ko-zara are used in today's presentation of Japanese cuisine...
A set of five soba choko, straight sided cups, so called boars mouth cups, decorated with a pattern of a grape vine and a wasp (hachi, bee, wasp or hornet) an autumnal motif. Curiously the grapes have been inverted to resemble the more familiar pomegranate. These would have probably been used for serving sake rather than soba noodles.
The cups measure in 8cm diameter and are 6.4cm in height. They are in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or restoration...

A late 19th – early 20th century famille rose vase, enameled profusely in the “hundred treasures” pattern and bordered with ruyi medallions.
Condition report: basically perfect condition, which some origin impurities to the enamels, and just one tiny shallow chip to the foot rim.
Well painted Famille Rose jar and cover. Decorated with a scene of Immortals and attendants. Chinese 19thC. Height 7 3/8" (18.7cm). Condition: excellent. The lid has a prefiring bruise under the glaze in the rim 1.3cm.
