A very fine Chinese Cloisonne enameled brush holder of lobed cylindrical form. Ddecorated in imperial yellow ground & colored enamels with 9 dragons. Early 20th Century (Republic). Excellent condition. D 6-1/2”. H 7”.

This is an upper child kimono of the Shonai district (Yamagata). It features blue dyeing and beautiful Tutugaki The Yuzen process of the freehand drawing is beautiful, this is thick cotton spun by hand. And crane and tortoises of the freehand drawing run well too. Lining is cotton dyed with rouge made specially in Yamagata. There are four stains of approximately 1cm (figure 1). There are two places extremely thin stain (figure 2). And there is one place of old rectification (figure 3)...

This pair of late 19th or early 20th century Mille Fleurs (thousands flowers) bowls are 2 ¾ inches tall and 5 ¾ inches in diameter. Hundreds of different flowers cover the outside of the bowls. A similar design about an inch wide is painted inside the bowls. They have an honorific Qian Long mark on the bottoms. The workmanship is wonderful. The gold trim on the rims has slightly rubbed off. They are in great condition.

Ming blue and white small bowl decorated with fish at the center and tibetan character as the rim border. Flower motive at the back of the wall. 12 cm diameter. Bowl has one crack.

Okutani Shuseki (1871-1936) was born in Osaka and lived in Kyoto for most of his life. His artistic lineage is among the very best. Kasuri (ikat) panel remnant with design of chrysanthemums, butterflies, and geometric squares. Japan, ca. Meji Era, 1868-1912. H.7.5"(19cm) x W.11.75"(32cm,) small 1.5cm repair patch in center. This is a wonderful example of mingei craft with a very playful image. Butterflies exist in Japanese folk imagery, but are not so common. This piece would be lovely framed.
