19th century repousse Chinese silver hat ornament in a shape of a Foo lion on a hollow base, its front paw on a free spinning filigree ball. During Qing Dynasty silver figures of traditional mythical characters were sewn onto hats for decoration. Soapstone pot. Sculpted decoration of a landscape animated by characters. In certain places, openwork crosses the walls. The cylindrical pot rests on three feet carved from the mass, it is covered with an openwork wooden lid, topped by a soapstone grip representing lotuses. It is possible that it is an incense burner, which would explain the presence of the Openworks for the evacuation of smoke and good ventilation, put into operation it has a very nice effect...
The two-tiered round mochi(round rice cake) called "Kagami-mochi",Ise lobster, bitter orange and green leaves. Painted with ink and pigments on paper. Sealed. The piece has been restored and remounted with beautiful old silk fabric, and futai tassels have been also reused from the old piece. It is inscribed Motonobu on the lid of the storage box.
The subject depicted is an offering made to welcome the New Year's god "Toshigami", and all of the decorations have a meaning...
