A pair of small “utility” knives made by Iban people of Sarawak, East Malaysia. These were frequently carried in the sheaths of their larger brothers, the Dayak mandau. The blades are hand forged, possibly scavenged steel from the leaf springs form an old car. Circa last half of the 20th century. A delightful Bennington-type yellowware cow creamer with mottled brown glaze. The cow stands on a concave oval base. This example is more nicely potted than some, with good detailing in the ribcage area and a quirky facial expression. These creamers were made in both America and England, but the style of modelling suggests this is an American example. The tail has been reglued nicely, and a professional restorer could make the repair completely invisible.

A rare Ko Imari rice bowl and cover decorated with European figures in a garden landscape one bald and holding a vase and the other with a broad rimed hat and a walking cane. The interior of both the bowl and the cover painted with a diaper band with demi-florets and an image of a “Dolphin” on a raised roundel. A Chinese lady's belt made of 16 mother of pearl discs each mounted with alternate appliques of butterfly and auspicious Chinese characters. One of the two end gilt silver clasps which are decorated with enamel characters is stamped "90" followed by characters. The quality of the multicolor enamel work as seen in the butterflies, is superb. size: 70 cm long. age: C. 1900. condition: One butterfly is missing and one disc has part of the Chinese character missing.

18th century netsuke of a karako (Chinese boy) wearing nicely decorated robe, holding a fan in his hand and seating on a very large bag. Strong early netsuke, great facial expression with an attractive smile, well carved textile patterns, warm yellow patina, old age lines. Height 1 5/8inches.

19th century Japanese kozuka (sword knife) handle depicting a view from the height of a castle tower and boats with sails and oars among the waves in a bay. Beautifully designed, wonderful crisp work with shakudo and gold inlays, in excellent condition. Length 3 13/16 inches.

SOLD An elaborately molded high handled sauceboat decorated with blue transfer flowers and blue transfer border on the interior top edge. There is a large amount of kiln ash in the glaze. 5 ¾ inches (14.5 cm) long, 3 ¼ inches (8 cm) tall and 2 ¾ inches (6.5 cm) wide.

Condition; Hairline crack where the handle joins the body and another short one on the left side just behind the first bump traveling back toward the handle. As mentioned earlier there is plenty of ash in the glaze...
