Japanese antique transom made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved with a scene of Ushiwaka and Benkei battling on Gojo Bridge in Kyoto. The young samurai, Yoshitsune (also known as Ushiwaka-maru) is depicted in an acrobatic pose, leaping over Benkei, the giant wild-man who was intent on stealing Ushiwaka's sword. Another samurai is carved below them, his much smaller form suggesting he is far below the action...

An intricately carved soapstone wine (or tea) pot with attractive "Chicken Blood" red inclusions. This item was made in China, circa 1870-1900, during the late Qing dynasty. Condition - the spout has been broken and re-glued; there are minor chips to the prunus branch decoration and to the tip of the spout 19cm (7.5 inches) long; 10cm (4 inches) high...

Museum quality piece. The front decorated with two dragons and the flaming pearl, the back decorated with bats, the standing rim decorated with colorful flower bands, both on the inside and outside. China, 19th century. Dimensions: 22 x 15,5 cm. Condition: excellent. A similar tray can be found in the catalogue of the opium exhibition at Kunsthal Rotterdam (collection F. Bertholet and C. Hoogendoorn) page 177 and 178.(see pictures)

Chinese tianhuang stone seals with calligraphy and landscape decoration and carved dragon on the top, nineteenth century China; marked. Dimensions: Height of the seal carving is 2 3/4 inches with width of 5/8 inch and depth of 5/8 inch. Condition Report: Great condition.

Stoneware jar in the form of an orange with the registry mark for F & R Pratt of Fenton for 1878 on the base. 4 inches (10.2 cm) tall and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide.

Condition: no chips cracks, hairlines or repairs. Minor staining and some tiny areas of paint loss.

A Victorian Pottery Syrup, Milk or Cream Jug or Pitcher with a Pewter Lid; circa 1880. Marked Atkin Brothers, Sheffield on Inside of the Pewter Lid. The Design consists of three Bands of Flowers; under the lid, the body and the base. Dimensions 7.25" high x 4.25" wide. Very good condition.

This late 19th century very well carved nephrite of a sage riding a horse is 9 inches high (with wood base is 10 ½ inches high), 8 ½ inches long and 4 ½ inches thick. It depicts an old sage holding a lantern while riding a horse. Though the nephrite has some natural blemishes, it is quite an eye catching piece. It is in great condition.

Antique Chinese cloisonne flower container, footed rectangular body beautifully colored, scrolling vines and flower on a turquoise ground. Bronze. A large four character mark on the bottom in cloisonne. Period: 19th Century. Size: 12.375" length x 7.5" width x 5.5" height

This fine silver wired 3" x 2.5" box is from one of the better studios. A single bird descends from a blooming prunus tree, the trunk of which extends down the front side of the box against a ground of blue so dark it appears black. The mounts are of silvered brass.

Condition: Good, there is minor scuffing to the bottom and an old repair to the upper left edge of the lid.

19th century nephrite carving. A reclined sheep holds a peach in her mouth. Her head is turned back to watch her baby. The lamb is leaning on his mother, in his mouth there is a string of Ling-Zhi. Very nice carving in good condition. H: 2 inches, W: 3 ¾ inches, D: 1 ½ inches

Antique pair of silver and enamel finger nail guards, worn by wealthy ladies to protect their long finger nails and show that they did not need to work with their hands, made all of pierced repouse silver and decorated with motifs of birds, flowers and fruit, 19th century. Size: 3 1/4" long

A large, heavily potted English pitcher with an applied strap handle. All of the strong floral decoration is handpainted except for the blue flowers which where the paint was stamped on with a cut sponge. Though it could be earlier the later date of circa 1880 is conservative...

The quality of this small elephant is excellent. Standing foursquare with head turned to one side. The body and the separately cast reliquary - monstrance inlaid, brightly enameled, multi coloured and richly ornamented. Nineteenth century or a little bit earlier. L : 14,8 cm. H : 19,4 cm Condition : Excellent with no damage. The reliquary - monstrance incomplete ( please see the last enlargement ).

Antique Chinese pair of small bowls, beautifully carved out of green jade, very simple with only a tiny band of decoration in a key fret motif around the outer rim, intricate carved cartouche on bottom, very thin so light shines through, possibly 19th century. Size of each: 1 3/4" high x 4 3/4" wide diameter

An archaic style Chinese jade object in the style of Han burial Jade objects. Top contains a motif of mythical beasts and the center section is incised with scrolling vines with a circular hole carved out in the center.The clear line seen below the beasts is a plastic wire to attach the jade piece on the black felt panel. Age: Size: height 3" width 0.1" length 2"

This is a large and beautiful nephrite jade bi, with a centrally placed coiled dragon and a pair of phoenix on either edge. The piece is entirely hand-carved, and the carving technique is consistent with archaic practice, utilizing a diagonal grid to space the coils which cover the body of the disc. The coils themselves are carved in opposing directions from one another, consistent again with ancient technique...

A refined Chinese Jade water coup. The water coup is carved in the form of a banana leaf, which is a popular motif in Chinese literati culture. The wooden stand is carved with motifs of ling bi like rocks, pine, bamboo, and other flora as if the coup was in a natural setting.Provenance:Laurence Friedman Collection, Age 19th century Size: Length 5.5" Width 2" Height 2"
