A nicely decorative Japanese burl Zelkova wood 'tobakobon' (smoking furnishing). Fitted with bamboo pipe holder, copper ash holder, and Zelkova shelf. Two handles of rosewood and sandalwood. Hardwood trim along the top with slight difference in wood shrinkage evident on one corner (easily remedied by a good restorer). Good condition with expected wear and evidence of use. 19th century. Height, 8 1/4 inches. Sides, 10 1/4 by 10 1/4 inches.
Antique Chinese square faceted box made of black lacquered wood with inset rattan panels. The top of the box is decorated with a rural scene of court figures in a garden painted in gold lacquer on a black lacquer ground. The box stands on small feet and cut-out details on the bottom portion of the box are lacquered red. A beautiful overall crackle of the lacquer speaks of the box's age.

This charming pair of lotus shoes are from northern China and date to the late Qing Dynasty. The delicately embroidered flower goes across the toe of each shoe and the wide ornate woven band forms a cuff around the top of each shoe.
This lacquered leather pillow would have been owned by a wealthy family during the Qing dynasty. Each end has a hand painted floral design with Chinese "well wishing" saying.

19th century netsuke of Benkei as yamabushi (a wandering priest) emerging out of a huge horagai (a war trumpet made out of a shell) and blowing into a smaller one, and holding a shakujo (Buddhist priest rattle) in his hand. The tokin (scull cap) on his head is the sign of the yamabushi, and horagai - (a trumpet shell - Charonia Tritonis) were often fitted with a mouthpiece on the thin end, and used as war trumpets...
Square dish with straight rims, with elegant indentation on each corner. In the center two cranes (or similar birds) walking on rocks underneath a pine tree near the sea. On the inside of the rims a continuous border of heart-shaped flowers, on the outside a border with diamond pattern, broken by one cartouche on each side, containing a house. The top of the rim decorated with a karakusa-border.
