Kappa (cape) made of cotton kasuri on both sides which are hand-spun and natural indigo dyed. It is called "maru-gappa" or "hiki-mawashi" in old days. It was worn on the occasion of travel over kimono. It has washi (Japanese handmade paper) between two cotton cloth which is washed out and soft. The word "kappa" came from Portuguese "capa". The Portuguese first came to Japan in 17th century. The piping　is made of handwoven hemp. Generally in good condition but has some holes and wear in cords...

A finely painted Kakiemon dish of scalloped form painted in under-glaze blue with a pair of auspicious Hoo birds amongst clouds, harbingers of good fortune, with stylised Peony branches. The reverse painted with a classic lotus scroll and a square fuku seal. Dating circa 1680-1700 and a product of the Kama-no Tsuji (Kakiemon) kiln in the Nangawara valley, note the fine pin point spurs and carefully trimmed footrim. A fine quality Kameyama-yaki auspicious Peach form, momogata, bowl delicately and painstakingly painted in the Chinese Literati style with Sansui scene for which the Kameyama kiln was renowned. The reverse decorated with auspicious Lotus motifs to the reverse and a small seal mark for the Kameyama kiln. A similar moulded dish with sprig decoration to the rim is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York (Accession number 93.3.453 and there dated 1820)...

Chinese Blanc De Chine Libation Cup of rhinoceros horn form. With applied decoration on one side, of a tiger below a dragon and prunus, the other side with a deer below a stork and pine. Of a warm colour. Kangxi L17thC. Length 9.6cm. Height 5.5cm. Condition: excellent, no chips, cracks or restoration.

A very nicely painted Pratt Ware cottage decorated with a blue tiled roof, children at the windows with an oversize female standing beside it. On one end of the cottage is a woman with a cornucopia (?) and on the other a flowering tree. At the back in the roof is a slot for large pennies. The colors are well applied. Similar cottages are illustrated in John and Griselda Lewis Pratt Ware, 2006 edition page 249...

Small cosmetic plate with a carved relief inside representing an erotic scene. The scene is surrounded by a geometric frieze around its rim. Grey schist with remnants of soil encrustations. Pakistan, Graeco-Buddhist art, Gandhara Period, 1st to 3rd century. Tiny chips, otherwise very good condition.

This small ivory carving of a geisha is a late Meiji period (1868~1911) product. It is 3 1/8" high, 1 1/4" wide and a little less than 1" thick. It depicts a geisha bowing her head demurely and looking at the floor. Her right hand holds her kimono robe closed; her left hand rests on her chest. The artist signature is on the bottom. It is in great condition.

Chinese Tang dynasty Changsha bowl. 13 cm diameter, there is some small chipped at the rim. Free from any repair.

New Arrival

Antique Japanese large onigawara roof tile end cap. This beautiful tile was made in the toukigawara method with a hollow interior. It once graced the roof of a large building, perhaps a temple or an important house. It has a raised Tomoe crest (mon) in the center which is surrounded by wonderfully three dimensional swirling clouds and topped with it's own roof. Meiji Period (1868-1912). Size: 20" high x 22" wide x 12 1/2" deep.

Meissen porcelain cup and saucer with ornamental gold trimming and line work. The saucer is 5 inches in diameter and the cup is 3 inches in diameter and 3 inches in height.

Relief fragment in the shape of a Hindu deity head, the face reflecting a serene and slightly smiling expression. Sandstone. India, Ca. 15th century. Height: 6 1/2" (16,5 cm). The piece is mounted on a custom stand. Erosion due to great age, chipped nose, otherwise good condition.
