A beautifully hand-crafted Shino ware chawan with crackled glaze by Kato Gorohachi (?-1900). The potter signature is carved on the bottom. Probably inspired by early Korean Ido examples, the bowl perfectly lies in hands giving strong Wabi feel.
There is not much information available about this Meiji potter even in Japan and his birth year is unknown.
He worked in the Hinno kiln of Aichi Prefecture in late 19 century.

Remarkable Wabi-Sabi Shino Chawan made by Seto master Kato Shuntai (1802-1877)
The potter name "Shuntai" is carved on the bottom.

Kato Shuntai is a notable potter from Seto area, Aichi prefecture who lived in the late Edo period. He followed his father profession as a ceramist at the age of 15 and soon he received a name Shuntai from Tokugawa, the 11th Daimyo of modern Nagoya. Kato Shuntai expanded Seto ware techniques adding Shino, Oribe and Mugiwara styles to his works.

Edo period (1603-1868) White Glaze Kyo Ware Tea Bowl for tea ceremony

This is rare Kyomizu work from the late Edo period. A white glaze tea bowl inspired by the white Nanjing ceramics of the Qing dynasty in China.

Early 17th century (Edo Period 1603-1868) distorted shoe shaped (tsutsugata) white Shino Chawan with a rounded brim, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in the lower part of the body and around the foot ring.

This bowl was covered with a white Shino type of ash glaze. Under the transparent glaze two young pine tries were painted in iron oxide...

Small tripod miniature incense burner of simple form in cast bronze. The two handles are unusually very thin. Below we can see the 6 characters of the reign of Xuande of the Ming Dynasty. The bronze is old, the beautiful patina attests to it. However, it is difficult to date it exactly. Usually the bronzes bearing the mark of Xuande are from the 17th century. A wooden base and lid were added later, probably in the 19th century...

16-17cc Korean Korai Komogai tea bowl which was imported to Japan during Edo Period.
It is very rare to see such bowls on the market.

Komogai is a type of Korai tea bowl. It has a unique appearance with a rounded waist and eversion of the rim of the mouth. The name Komogai was originally the name of a place in Gyeongsangnam-do in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula, but the reason why it became the name of the tea bowls is not clear...

This lovely Buddha is seated in the lotus or Padmasana position, with each foot placed on the opposite thigh. His robes cascade fluidly from his left shoulder.  His robe is draped to leave the right shoulder bare, and a portion of the garment that covers the left wrist falls behind the figure...

The figure is is stood samabhanga and is remarkable for its realistic yet delicate delineation of the limbs and the robe which seems to cling to the body.

The garment (sanghati) covers both shoulders. The right hand is held out in the vitarka mudra of teaching. The lowered left hand grants boons in the varada mudra...

Lot of 7 medallions in gilded copper, cut, cloisonné and enamelled with Chinese characters and lotus flowers on a background cutted of Swastika. It seems that the pattern is related to wishes for great longevity. Very rare if not unique set...

Cigarette holder that can be used as a card holder in steel inlaid with gold and silver. The technique used is that of damascene (nunome zogan) in the style of Komeï. Japanese work around 1900. On the front are represented in gold a temple and a pagoda dominating a lake landscape; on the back is Mount Fuji dominating a lake. In the foreground an amusing retail fishing boat, indeed a tiny bird is perched at the top of the mast, probably a cormorant which would confirm the function of the boat...
