A marvelous pair of Dresden or Old Paris porcelain candlesticks with carefully painted cherubs holding to each nozzle while upholding while perched on stumps. The winged characters are draped with modesty scarves which swirl around the sticks. The quatrefoil bases are embellished with gold and encrusted with pink flowers.

The slightly brassy gilding cause me to date these beautiful candlesticks as early as 1880 since they are unmarked, to as late as 1910...

Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's storage chest). Made with keyaki (zelkova elm) wood frame and front. Sugi (cryptomeria) wood sides and top. 2 large sliding panels open to a large compartment. Below this are 4 drawers of various sizes. Iron hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls. Deep reddish wiped lacquer finish.

Set of 6 hand-painted, gilded Dresden cups & saucers by Richard Wehsener (each item individually hand-signed R. Wehsener, except 1 saucer). They were produced in the Wehsener Porcelain Company in Dresden, Germany and had a reputation for excellence in design. The beautifully lobed cups and scalloped saucers are exquisitely decorated with colorful hand-painted garlands of flowers and accents of gold on the handle, inner and outer rims...

This is a 19th century, finely hand carved Japanese Netsuke, round, one-part domed, in slightly sunken relief, depicting a bust portrait of Daruma with big hossu. Beautiful golden-yellow patina on the reverse. Signed Shinsai. Netsuke measures 1.65 inches (4.2cm) in diameter, and 0.56 inches (1.4cm) thick. It is in excellent condition, as sown in the posted photos.

Rather unusual 19th century Japanese bronze scroll weight in a form of a chestnut. Clever design in Japanese taste, superb naturalistic modeling (see perfectly worked texture of the bottom), beautiful warm brown patina, beautiful gilding, pleasantly heavy. Old collection number in red on the underside. Wonderful piece in scholar’a taste. Length 1 5/16 inches.

Republic period, late 19th century, phoenix with yellow, pink, and green feathers. The feathers are beautifully detailed. The bird stands on one foot with the other raised close to it's body atop a rock formation. It measures 17" tall. Overall good condition with some loses.

From our European Porcelain Collection, a lovely three-piece Dresden ensemble, 19th century, very finely painted in the Baroque style with a central scene of figures involved in musical pursuits, all executed in polychrome enamels against a deep cobalt blue ground surrounded by lavish gilding.

19th century Japanese Asakusa school staghorn kiseruzutsu - tobacco pipe case - of elegant simple shape with medium relief carving of a jar containg an ikebana arrangement with lotus leaf and 2 different flowers, channel for hanging carved under the upper flower. Excellent carving and etching, beautiful wear and patina, clever use of outer texture of the antler as element of design, in great condition. Length 8 inches.

This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Nymphenburg in the 1890s. The saucer has a diameter of 6 inches. The cup is 2 inches tall with a diameter of 3 3/4 inches. The set is made of fine hard paste porcelain that has a molded basket weave border. It is expertly hand painted in shades of burgundy red. There are sprays of various flowers and flower buds scattered around. The rims and handle are trimmed with gold...

An antique Japanese Kotansu (personal chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles and Sakata lock plates. 5 drawers provide generous storage and organization. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

This 3 piece porcelain tea cup, saucer and dessert plate was produced in Germany by the Helena Wolfsohn Dresden studio in the 1890s. The plate is 7 1/2 inches in diameter, the saucer is 4 7/8 inches in diameter and the cup is 1 3/4 inches high with a diameter of 3 1/8 inches. The fluted porcelain blanks were made in Bohemia by Ohme. The porcelain is highly translucent, delicate and scalloped on the edges. Bright panels of yellow alternate with panels of tiny colorful flowers...

19th century netsuke of recumbent mother Shishi with a Young one that is playfully climbing on her back. They, both seemed to be on the alert with their eyes wide open. Excellent form a symmetry, great rendition of their curly manes and tails, from an artist that was quite adept and proficient at carving animals, according to George Lazarnick, in his book “Netsuke and Inro Artist and How to Read their Signatures...

Silver and brass very large Catholic votive item with decorative silver heart, three cherubs, and a flame. And, in applied brass(or other gold metal) there is a cross atop a crown with the initials "RCR". Quite large, it measures 7 1/2" long by 5 1/4" wide. 19th century Japanese iron mae-kanagu (tobacco pouch clasp fitting) depicting two toys - a hobby horse and a bird on wheels. Iron is notoriously difficult to work with. Very nice design, wonderful detailing, gold inlays. Length 1 1/2 inches.
