Rare Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar (Xindian)

This rare pottery jar was made around 3,000 years ago. Although we are not certain from which Neolithic culture it originates, it does have similarities to pottery of the Xindian Culture (c. 1200 - 500 BC). It is fairly "heavily-potted" and the surface colour of the pottery varies considerably due to uneven conditions in the kiln during firing. Offered are two desirable, circa 1905-1910, smooth face hickory shaft golf clubs. Smooth face golf clubs fell out of fashion, and perhaps function, by the very early 1900s, yet they were still offered in catalogues for a number of years beyond this date.

DESCRIPTION: A fine Chinese boxwood water-well basket toggle, intricately carved in an acorn shape with a realistic and detailed basket weave pattern with carved wood rim. The arched overhead handle has a free-carved wood ring attached; the interior is hollowed out. Excellent condition, a beautiful toggle, 19th C. A magnificent Song dynasty Chizhou large basin, rounded side with flattened rim and unglazed base, basin decorated with painted iron brown of large fish motif at the center, also there is flower and weave motif, outer wall covered with iron brown motif.
Basin is in good condition with fine star crack to the rim, no chip, no restoration. few very minor glaze fritt / nick.

19th century small wooden netsuke (works as ojime as well) carved as seated Zen Patriarch Daruma enveloped in his monastic robe. According to a legend he had fallen into deep trance, and sat meditating without moving for 9 years, so his feet withered. Skillfully carved out of ichii (yew wood) in characteristic Hida school style with clever use of wood color and structure to add to the charm of the piece. Nice patina, in great condition.
