From our European Collection, a good late 19th century bronze figural inkwell, probably French.

Size and Condition: 9 inches wide, 5 1/4 inches tall, 6 1/4 inches deep. Some verdigris to the patina, the interior glass ink container liner has a small crack, and the inkwell lid does not fully close, though this can easily remedied with a competent repair. Still fine overall condition.

A Pair of Louis XVI Gilt Bronze Candlesticks with Removeable Bobeches. Dimensions; 11" high x 6" at the base. From the late eighteenth century and in excellent condition.

The two fine and old haribako (Japanese Sewing Box) that we offer here on our site are likely the oldest ones you will see offered for sale. They come from the collection of a renowned author on and collector of Asian art. This lovely chest of paulownia and pine has the original hardware, original ruler, and original pincushion. 18.5h x 9d x 7.5w inches, 47h x 23d x 19w cm. Very Good Condition.

Beautiful Japanese antique kaidan tansu (step tansu) made of dramatic keyaki (elm) wood burl, iron hardware with hirute shaped drawer pulls, in two sections, Edo Period, circa 1850s, (early 19th century). Size: 76 3/4" high x 71 1/2" wide x 27 1/2" deep.

A Large Brass Inkstand or Standish in the Rococo Revival Style with Cherubs Flanking a Central Medallion. Two Wells, but glass not original. Dimensions; 14" wide x 10.5" deep x 5" high, weight 6 pounds. Inscribed 1890. Very good condition.

Japanese antique 2-section butsudan, a Buddhist shrine for use in the home. The front exterior of the shrine is made with beautiful red finish hardwood with black lacquer sides, folding silk meshed interior doors with gilt lacquer panels of flying cranes, a beautiful miniature temple scene inside where the image of a deity and offerings are to be placed. A carved gilt panel with dragons hangs overhead...

This superb ivory carving of an aristocratic young woman holding a child is a mid or late Meiji period (1868~1911) product. The woman is formally dressed in a kimono decorated with patterns and floral designs. Her hair is elaborately coiffed. She holds a boy in her left arm and a parasol in her right hand. The child is holding a branch of chrysanthemum. The piece is very well executed and stands 10 ¼” high, 4” wide and 3 1/8” thick (measured from the bottom)...

 

This rare and exceptional Japanese Mirror Chest of Japanese Ash and Elm with Hand Mirror of fine Persimmon and Gorgeous Brass Metalwork is from the collection of a renowned author on and collector of Asian art. The brass hinges are adorned with Chrysanthemums, the Japanese symbol of health, happiness and well-being. Truly a wonderful and rare piece. 14.25h x 9.75w x 9d inches, 36h x 25w x 23d cm. Art Nouveau Bronze Figural Tray, with a Woman with Book and Pen and surrounded by Flowers. Dimensions; 13.5" long x 7" deep x 5" high. Weight, a substantial 78 ounces. Circa 1910-1920 and in excellent condition with wonderful patina.

Gorgeous antique Japanese Kuruma tansu (wheeled chest), made of keyaki (elm) wood with all original finish and original heavy iron hardware, from the Etchu Area of Japan (ref. "Wadansu-shusei" by Kodansha), Edo Period c. 1830's. Size: 48 1/2" high x 56 1/2" wide x 29" deep. Exhibited: "Moving Cabinetry: Tansu from The Zentner Collection", Palo Alto Art Center, 2005.

A very good sample of Ming dynasty 15th century blue and white very large jar, rounded side with globular body and unglazed base, jar decorated with under glaze blue of continuous large band of flower motif in the center, on the shoulder with flower spray motif divided in Arabic style band.
Jar is in good condition with damage parts and re attach, please see picture for detail.

95 % of all Shufu Ware pieces are broken. This piece is in an perfect condition. Very thiny potted body with a nice molded decoration, covered by a nice Shufu glaze. Nice bell like sound when tapped. Yuan Dynasty ( 1279 - 1368 ) Diameter : 16,5 cm.

A rare large Kameyama bowl of sanpan form decorated to the interior with a painting of a large koi carp. The border decorated with patterns of prunus against a cracked ice pattern and sekigaha wave pattern. The exterior decorated with auspicious Bats. The stern displaying a seal mark for the Kameyama (Turtle mountain) kiln...

Wonderful Chinese Tang Dynasty tomb pottery figure of a standing horse, Sanchai glaze, comes with TL (thermo luminescence) test. Size: 13 1/2" high x 14 1/2" wide x 5" deep.

Antique Japanese lacquered samurai sword stand,holds five swords. The stand is simply done in black lacquer with gold paintings on the front and back panels. The bridge of the stand is decorated with a view of Mount Fuji divided into two sections. One side shows Mount Fuji with a dragon ascending the peak of the mountain. The other side shows the foothills of mount Fuji with a view of the bay of Tago (Tago no Ura). Age: 19th century. Size: length: 19.5" width 7.5" height: 19"
