Large Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Siwa Culture (c. 1350 BC)

This large and impressive pottery jar dates to the Siwa culture (c. 1350 BC). It has a relatively small flat base and a wide saddle-shaped mouth. There are two loop handles that join the shoulder to the rim. The surface colour of the pottery has interesting variations in places, from an attractive deep orange to grey, a result of uneven conditions during the firing process...

Pair English Spode Stoneware Imari pattern covered Tureens, 5 1/2" high include top knob, 10" diameter, Imari design are on the top of the cover and as well as inside the tureen. Impressed mark "Spodes New-Stone", with red mark "3248" on the bottom and under the cover. The condition is very good, no damages.

Lohan in Chinese porcelain covered with "famille verte" enamels.The deity is represented standing holding a flowers basket in his hand, it is probably Lan Caihe, one of the 8 Taoist immortals otherwise known as the 8 Baxian. The dress is decorated with flowers, butterflies and clouds in green, yellow and manganese enamels on a cream background. Hairs and details in black enamel. Good condition except a very little chip. An amazing and very large Iron lock with it's workable key, from a heavy gate, South-Germany, Renaissance period, 16th. century.

An early lock with a perfectly preserved locking mechanism. A snap lock with two bolts for extra security and with it's original key, so very rare!

Size: 31,5 cm. long and 23,5 cm. wide, and the key being 19 cm. long! Weight: c. 1,8 kilograms.

18th century netsuke of sennin (Chinese sage) standing with one foot raised, clad in tiger skin skirt and holding in his hands tassels that support a large woven straw hat on his back. Strong early piece with superb smiling face, beautiful flow to the lines of his skirt. Wonderful wear to the surface from more than 200 years of handling, beautiful yellow patina turning light honey color on the back from wear against the silk of kimono, old age lines...

Antique hakama (trousers) worn by a Noh theatre actor. Decorated all over with a design of gold dragons and lattice work on a dark blue ground. Traditional squared form with pleating and wide white cotton ties. These hakama would have been part of the Noh theatre ôguchi (costume).

Large and heavily potted porcelain body, decorated in an nice pale cobalt blue in Shunzui style and with medallions showing flying birds and wild gees, birds sitting on branches, sailboats and Fujiyama mountain. Japan, nineteenth century. Diameter: 42 cm. H : 33 cm. Condition: Broken at one area to the rim. This broken area would be absolutely suitable to ennoble the piece with a most beautiful Kintsugi repair ( Gold lacquer repair, please see the images ).

Classical coin silver basket. Made by Haddock, Lincoln & Foss in Boston, ca 1860. Round and curved with four cast leaf-mounted leaf supports. Beaded mouth rim and c-scroll swing handle. Marked with maker’s stamp. Very good condition with nice patina.

Antique Japanese pair of hibachi (braziers) made with gorgeous natural mulberry wood, recessed dark hardwood handles at its sides, copper lined interior with charming patina. Meiji Period ( 1868 - 1912)

A pair antique reticulated Chinese silver incense stick holders. Decorated with dragons among clouds chasing the pearl, fixed on Chinese pierced wooden stands. No maker's mark, silver tested. Condition: some traces of usage. Dimension: total c. 11.9 cm high, diameter base: 8.6 cm.

With a very nice contiuous river landscape scene. Probably mid Qing Dynasty, maybe the signature to the back of the piece gives a more pecise result concerning the dating of the piece. H : 16,7 cm. Condition : Not artifically polished like often seen on Bamboo brush pots. Nice, naturally grown patina. Some old superficial dry - cracks. Definitely not a single of these cracks extens until the inside of the bamboo body. Provenance : Old German collection.

A set of Burmese amulets in lacquered wood and gilded with gold leaf.
It is believed that this type of statuette had special powers due to the paste made from sacred ashes and medicinal herbs, which was inserted into the hole in the base of the statuette and carried by healers.

19th century boxwood netsuke of a baby boy crawling on his hands and knees, wearing a bib tied on his back. Excellent rendition of body and limbs showing baby fat, great face, hair knots are inlaid with dark horn. Very beautiful warm brown staining, pleasant patina, overall in excellent condition. Length 1 13/16 inches.

Antique Japanese jizai-kagi in the form of a catfish. In a Japanese home, water in a kettle or pot is heated over an irori (sunken hearth). The jizai hook hangs from a strong ceiling beam. From this, a long device is suspended with a hook on the end that can be adjusted up or down by moving the jizai-kagi. This unusual jizai-kagi is carved of kayaki (zelkova elm) wood and has patination from hearth smoke. A portion of it's original iron chain is still attached...

Chinese Blue and White Salad Bowl decorated with floral designs derived from European prints. Qianlong C1760/80, Diameter side to side 9 5/8" (24.4cm). Condition; shallow frit to rim 0.4cm, otherwise perfect.

These 6 porcelain demitasse cups and saucers were produced in Germany at the Royal Porcelain Manufacturer, Berlin in the early 20th century. The saucers are 3 3/4 inches in diameter and the cups are 1 3/4 inches high. They are can shaped with deep saucers. There is raised gold trim on all of the pieces. The colors are exciting and vibrant. They would make an elegant addition to your table. Condition: Excellent

A beautiful 18th century glass sweetmeat with a dentated (cogwheel) rim (21 teeth) on a double ogee bowl above a multiple spiral opaque twist stem with a shoulder inverted baluster knop. The foot is radially rib molded with a rough, snapped pontil.

Condition is excellent with good tooling marks and color. The height is 3 3/8 " with a bowl diameter of 4 inches and a foot diameter of 2 1/2".

Japanese calligraphy box made with Keyaki (elm) wood in original dark red lacquer finish. The lid lifts open on three iron hinges with a top iron handle to a shallow lacquered compartment for storing calligraphy papers, and closes securely with a small iron latch. The front of the box holds three drawers with iron lock plates and handles on floral shaped iron mounts.

19th century netsuke in of a boy wearing a short jacket and reading a book as he sits on the back of a resting buffalo. The subject seems to be a variation of bokudo - a theme of a perfect peace of mind, and one of the stages of a journey towards Buddhahood. Wonderful carving perfectly capturing the tranquil mood of the scene, beautiful thoughtful face of the boy, excellent detailing - see the woven mat spread on the back of the beast, its tether with rope and dense hairwork. Chinese Han dynasty lidded gray earthenware hu-form jar with globular body and slightly flaring neck divided into horizontal grooved bands holding incised decoration of various animals. Two opposing applied taotie mask handles are at the shoulder. The circular domed lid has three loops at the edge. 14 3/4" high. 206 BC – 220 AD. Antique Chinese peach silk ladies robe with blue and gold embroidery. Wonderfully embroidered butterflies, phoenixes and fans in gold. Peony flowers embroidered in shades of blue and white. Detail on upper back with spider. Measures 47" x 29". Overall good condition. The embroidery is in excellent condition, the border slightly frayed. Late 19th c.

Late Qing Chinese red tixi cinnabar circular box decorated with alternating layers of red and black lacquer deeply carved to create intricate designs The box has a beautiful sheen to the surface so that the layers of lacquer simply pop. High quality and in excellent condition, it measures 3” diameter, and 1.5” high. Circa 1850.

Japanese antique Jizai or "J" hook, made for hanging a large kettle by rope from rafters over fire pit, made of keyaki (elm) wood, wonderfully rough hewn and sculptural, carved with eight sides, great patina from smoke and use, Meiji Period (1868-1912).
