A really fantastic early vintage Mexican Silver Cross with original chain by Matilde Poulat and signed with her old mark MATL. The hanging angels are so special with hand carving to the tops. This is the first time I have owned one with a chatelaine. A chatelaine's purpose is to make it more decorative with a smoother lead into the drop. Please note that both the chatelaine and the cross has cut outs under the amethyst stones to aid in more of a glow...

A rare and spectacular mid-century modern sterling pin by Carmen Beckmann. The center features 2 Mexican jelly opals and green stones that I believe are tourmaline. The stones are bezel set and the color combination is striking. The irregular shapes of the green stones and the varied lengths of the jutting silver spokes make this design fascinating. It is unique down to the clasp which is a simple "C" clasp with an interlocking safety catch that slides up to hold the pin securely in place...

Huge, meticulously worked, with such detail and rich presence this Mexican Deco sterling silver bird of paradise is one of my absolutely favorite brooch designs. I have to admit that I really love brooches - I seek them out and try to find the best examples for One Good Eye Silver and it doesn't matter to me if they are "in" or not at the specific point in time. Brooches are classy; they can be delicate and romantic; and they can be bold and beautiful...

This pink seashell, resembling a cat’s paw shell, is mounted in an irregular shaped and textured sterling silver frame that appears to be an extension of the shell’s surface. The impressed linear design of the frame is enhanced by gilded bands, most of them vertical. The pin is a substantial piece with a secure rollover clasp. The shell appears to be naturally colored on the exterior; it has a white interior that appears pink in the light...

There is not one form of jewelry in which the Los Castillo did not excel yet I think their big, bold repousse brooches are simply above and beyond! The example I am presenting here, most probably an early creation if design numbers are indeed good indicators of when during the workshop's life a specific idea was transformed into jewelry, reflects the Egyptian Revival of the Deco period...

American studio jeweler Betty Cooke opened her first retail space in 1946 in Baltimore. Her style is considered spontaneous and according to the book MESSENGERS OF MODERNISM " she likes to think of her jewelry as metal action pieces which are based on the curve." This great bracelet certainly fits that description with the lines bending and curving in several directions as it embraces a large central oval black onyx. The center onyx piece measures 1 3/4" long and the bracelet band is 3/8" wide. T...

A Zuni sterling silver and turquoise double row cuff bangle bracelet circa 1960s. While we previously attributed this as a Navajo piece based upon what we were told, we have been informed by a thoughtful collector that this is actually a Zuni snake eyes bracelet. A wonderful Aztec design 940 silver pin with 5 balls and 5 dangles by Hector Aguilar. I have never seen this pin before and I have not found it in any books so believe it to be quite rare. It measures 1 3/4" long and 1 3/8" wide.It is in fine original condition but the safety is missing on the pin clasp so it is currently just a "C" clasp. Although it holds on clothing as it is now, it would be best to replace the safety catch to make it more secure. This can be easily done by a jeweler. The reve...

Question marks, whether straight or inverted, seem to have provided a fun, tongue-in-cheeck motif when Taxco maestros were designing earrings. I have seen them hanging off repousse semi-spheres, studded with turquoise cabs and even having cascabeles themselves. Yet this big, bold and beautiful set goes above and beyond its peers. Sculptural repoussage, tiny beading accents and oxidation combine here with gorgeous bezel-set amethyst cabs in a curvaceous, sexy pair of Mexican Deco earrings. Yet it...

The thick, original 21" chain also weighs 70 grams. The pendant detaches from the chain so that it can be worn as a brooch. The silver & 10 amethysts cabs are in beautiful, original condition. Big and beautifully aged this floral sterling silver Hector Aguilar brooch is representative of the 1940s' love affair with all motifs from nature. The flower is here layered, with deep hand-chased details in the petals and foliage, a strong curving stem and cluster of small beads right at its center. I love the way the bloom is wide open, its face turned to the sun, taking in light and heat and turning it to color, aromas and beauty for our visual enjoyment. Featured on page 172 of the book MEXICAN SILVER by Morrill and Berk, this is the Female Dancers Bracelet by Los Castillo, c.1940-45. Very rare and exhibiting magnificent detail, it measures 7 1/2" end to end and is 1 3/4" wide. I am unsure if the clasp is original or perhaps a replacement although it has the same patina as the bracelet. Weighing 78 grams, the bracelet is in excellent condition. Signed and numbered as shown. Sigi Pineda rings don't come up very often and I am very happy to present here an example out of his "boomerang" line. Fashioned in the so-called by pass style, this is a slick, mod piece, its two wings adorned with bezel set turquoise cabs. Fantastic patina and excellent vintage condition make this an absolute must-have for collectors of Mexican jewelry and lovers of mod design alike. Relatively adjustable (upwards, I would suggest), the ring is now a sz 6 and its face measures just above 1" by...

This late-19th century sterling silver bangle bracelet exhibits the quality tool work of many of the New York and Newark, NJ, bench jewelers of the late 19th century. The bangle is hollow, but sturdy enough to withstand the hand chasing of the twisted surface. It bears the maker’s mark of George W. Heath, New York (later Newark), as well as a sterling mark. There are a few very minor indentations in the surface (some are in photo #3), but nothing that compromises the structural integrity or b...

How often does one find an Enrique Ledesma starburst pendant? And if one does come upon an example, how often is it of such astonishing proportions? Let me answer my own question then - not often at all! Yet here I am presenting you with one and it is spectacular. Having a huge flat-cut color-change sapphire (synthetic corundum) at its heart , the pendant shoots out eight elegant sterling rays, their slender bodies curving away from the center to end in flattened drop shapes. This is such an ico...
