An exquisite Lacquer Tray decorated with a spray of flowering Azalea in gold powder with mother of pearl, ceramic and lead inlays. Large kirigane flakes of solid gold decorate the petals. It is enclosed in a wooden box titled Tsutsuji Maki-e Nagatebon (Azalea Makie-e Tray). It is quite large at 19-1/2 x 14-1/2 x 2 inches (49.5 x 37 x 4.5 cm) and is in fine condition, dating from teh later Meiji to early Taisho period (1895-1915).

Measuring 5 1/2" square and 8 1/2" high to top of handle, this Tabako Bon, or tobacco box, is lacquer over wood, with brass fittings, round lidded container, and hibachi. The one large drawer contains the lidded brass container and an open compartment behind it, and the other two drawers fit the depth of the case. A raw earthen bottle hand formed for sake and engraved with a poem by Otagaki Rengetsu. It is 5-1/4 inches (13.5 cm) tall and in fine condition. The poem reads:

Asatode Samushi Going out in the morning I feel cold
Okazaki no sato Here in Okazaki village
