A modernist sculpture in bronze on a wooden base by pioneering female artist Katsura Yuki (also Yukiko 1913-1991). The humorous figure is reminiscent of the works of Okamoto Taro and Akutagawa Saori, another pioneering female artist from Japan who lived in New York around the same time as Yuki. The image is 10 inches (26 cm) tall and in excellent condition.

Rare Chinese Northern Wei Dynasty Pack Horse (AD 386 - 534)
This rare and interesting pottery model of a pack horse, or pony, was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" with a base coat of white pigment on top of which has been applied black pigment in places. Note the detail of the pack on its back that includes two water containers and a rabbit.

Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Qingbai Glazed Porcelain Covered Jar
This attractive small covered jar was made during the 13th / 14th Century (Song / Yuan Dynasty). It is coated inside and out in a pale slightly greenish-blue Qingbai glaze. Around its waist are deeply incised lines for decoration and it stands on quite a sturdy foot. The cover has a carved pattern to give it the appearance of a tiled roof; this jar represents a granary.

Mala Prayer beads from Lhasa with silver counters. I am not sure what the beads are made from but they are from Lhasa Tibet purchased over 15 years ago.

A blue and white dish, decorated with bird on the garden scene, fine painted and best quality cobalt blue tone. Ming dynasty 17th century Zhangzhou ware or Swatow. Condition with a hairline, otherwise is very good. Diameter: 28cm.
A Tokkuri decorated with an Otsu-e image of a sword bearer and a poem by Otagaki Rengetsu enclosed in a wooden box annotated by the head of Jinkoin Temple and titled Rengetsu-ni saku, Otsu-e Tokkuri, The poem reads:
Furi tate shi As if raising and lowering
mameshi gokoro no his true heart like a standard
hitosuji ni in one line
koyuru ka imo ni will he pass through to meet his love

A lobed form by Nakajima Yasumi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and in fine condition.
The name of Nakajima first came to notice in 1908, when the first generation Yasumi (1877-1950) was awarded at the Senkatsu Kinen Exhibition...
Porcelain decorated with floral spray in the center. Iron brown wash covers base with petal lappets with hanging floral scroll on the exterior. Diameter = 17 cm. Periode : 15th- 16th Century Condition : two hairlines to the rim and small chips to the foot ring and free from restoration.
Chinese Warring States Bronze Axe Head
This bronze axe head dates approximately to the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). Inside are remains of its wooden shaft. Length 16 cm (6.25 inches). Unfortunately it has been broken in two and re-stuck.

This tall pottery figure was made during the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220) and has been excavated from Sichuan province. It is made from a reddish pottery and is highly detailed. Such figures are usually referred to as farmers, although during this period Sichuan farmers were also called upon by their masters to become soldiers when required...

A decidedly different version of this theme, a Festive carved wooden Tai (Red Snapper) fish with removable side for sashimi coated inside in gold with bone teeth and inlayed bone eyes. The craftsman ahs gone to great lengths to make this as realistic as possible, from the textures of the skin to the folds in the fins and coloring. Unusually, most dishes in this vein are one sided, however this is equally realistically carved on both sides...
A beautifully written tea room scroll by 19th century calligraphist and seer/soothsayer Yokoyama Marumitsu (1780-1854) bordered in pale green brocade and featuring bone rollers. The calligraphy is very expressive, dark lines varying dramatically in width as they curl down the wide sheet. The signature line reads A 72 year old man Kiosanjin Marumitsu making the scroll date to 1851 by Japanese age count(Kiosanjin was one of his many literary names)...
