White cranes soar from the black water of a lake tucked in the shadow of orange hills on this lovely mid 20th century scroll enclosed in the original signed and stamped wooden box by Takazaki Ko (b. 1910). Extremely delicate yellow trees reflect off the dark surface of the lake, contrasting with the thick ranks of orange marching up the hillside. Painted in the audacious style of Banka, the painting retains a quiet charm in the singular movement of the graceful birds...

A misshapen bowl excavated and assembled from several pieces using the kintsugi gold technique. Originally a kiln flaw, it was likely destroyed after creation, later to be excavated and assembled as was popular in the later Edo period. Misshapen,and with a large kutsuki on one side, it is 4 x 5 x 3 inches (10 x 12.5 x 8 cm) and comes in a wooden box.

Kangxi blue and white Saucer D=10.5 cm, condition small glaze frit on the back. Late Qing BW Cup, D=8.5 cm H=4 cm, perfect condition. Late Qing BW jar D=4 cm H=5 cm, perfect condition.

Chinese Qing dynasty bronze compressed globular bombe form censer with two well executed Buddhist lion-mask handles. High circular foot with an apocryphal six-character Ming Xuande reign mark in relief within a recessed rectangular panel on the base. 5 1/2” diameter (including handles) x 2 5/8” high. Weighs 1 lb. 2 oz. 19th century. Very good overall condition. Appears to have been polished years ago.

 

The largest piece I have ever seen by Miyanaga Tozan I, a fine baluster form celadon on a superb rosewood stand. It is 21-1/2 inches (55 cm) tall, 15-1/2 inches (40 cm) diameter and in excellent condition. There is a custom made copper insert for use with flower arranging. A rare carved jade of an old man with a beard. Half of the jade on top is translucent and the bottom bottom half opaque. It is from the Hunan culture which was absorbed by the Han as their control spread over the whole of China. Size: H. 3.8cm. W. 1.3cm. See last three photos.

Chinese Qing dynasty Qianlong period ribbed guglet vase decorated in fencai famille rose enamels with birds among flowering fruit trees, rockery, and bamboo all set against a white porcelain ground. 18th century. 10 1/4” high. Very good overall condition. The vase is slightly misshapen. There are burst bubbles in the glaze at the rim and scattered throughout that are consistent with production at that time...

This is the pinnacle of production for imperial artist Seifu Yohei III, a large Taihakuji porcelain vase with carved designs enclosed in the original signed wood box. Museum quality would be an understatement. Seifu III was known to have made few large works, so this is a very important piece, and Taihakuji was his most appreciated style. Here we see two pheasants in a blossoming tree overlooking a large crag, with clouds brimming about the rim, all in carved relief...

A natural amber pendant of a good fortune frog (toad) with the underside having a string of coins for wealth. The bottom has a hole for stringing. Size: L. 3.8cm. W. 3.3cm. Condition: No repairs.

A male front Mandarin square with a tiger, denoting the 3rd military rank. Silk tapestry (kossu, k'o-suu) with metallic threads and painted details. The animal is standing on a rock above deep water, the ground with Taoist longevity symbols. Blue silk lining. The background was probably covered by peacock feathers, rarely survived to the present days. Reference: "Ladder to the Clouds" by Jackson & Hugus Berkeley 1999, for similar badges...

A rarely encountered large format limited edition Japanese woodblock print titled Constellation No. 38" by Joichi Hoshi (1913-1979). Pencil-signed "Joichi Hoshi" and dated '67 in the lower margin. Chinese Imperial yellow porcelain censer with frogs on lid and elephant handles. The pierced lid setting on a rounded form bowl on tripod legs impressed mark Daoguang period 1821-1850. In excellent condition no damage a fine addition to any collection.

Anonymous Korean oil painting on canvas, late 20th century, 52.5 x 40.5 x 2 cm (20.66 x 15.94 x 0.78in)...

This saddle has ornate silver and cloisonne detailing. The basic wood saddle tree is covered with leather and the edges are rimmed with strips of silver metal with colorful floral enameling. Addition large flat buttons of silver and cloisonne are sewn to the leg flaps and are also used on the saddle seat to keep the original Tibetan rug saddle pad in place.

Saddle comes with custom made stand.

A large baluster form Sumidagawa vase decorated in slips of green and black glaze over crackled red with a three-dimensional tokage (lizard) crawling down the side. The detail on the creature is superb, from the textured body to the white claws with which it seems to grip the sides of the slippery surface. On the backside is a raised gourd shaped stamp reading Ishiguro Koko (One of the most prominent Sumidagawa potters)...

Antique Japanese pottery teabowl with Sakura and Momiji tree Kyo ware made by the 2nd Rokubei Kiyomizu (1790-1860) about 160-170 years ago. The seal of the potter is stamped on the bottom. A gorgeous Jubako stacking box of lacquered wood decorated with burgeoning grape vines in powdered gold maki-e dating from the 19th century enclosed in the original wooden storage box.
