Exceptional Edo p. Japanese Screen, Demon War An exceedingly rare set of four dramatic paintings divided into segments depicting a variety of battle scenes and supernatural phenomena, each heavy pigment on paper canvas mounted on one of four panels of a gold screen bordered in mulberry. The scenes appear to comprise a fragment of the tale of Daikozan (Oeyama), a Kyoto tale where in a powerful demon was lured to drink, then cut to pieces in his stupor...

Nicely rendered and cast, with good detail in face and mane, this Roman bronze applique or roundel dates to the 1st to 3rd centuries AD, and measures 2 3/4" (vertical) x 2 7/8" (horizontal). It has two holes at the side for attachment, and also has holes where a loop was once attached at the mouth. This bronze is a very nice size, and has good patina, with verdigris and red bronze coloration evident, front and back. Additional photos always available upon request.

Measuring 32" x 1", this belt is comprised of a heavy stepped buckle, 8 square panels featuring peacocks, lions and other animals, 8 rectangular panels of foliate designs, 5 round panels with peacocks, and 12 bar panels with a flower, all over 13 woven strands of silver. A hexagonal miniature table brass box, decorated with interlacing patterns, tendrils and Islamic calligraphy inscriptions, inlaid in silver and copper. With hinged lid and a small locking clasp, the interior with wood lining, mother-of-pearl and bone inlays. Condition: bottom of the lining lost. Dimension: 20.5 cm high.

A Chinese bronze censer with good patina in the form of a peach with leafage, standing on three feet. The lid with a smaller peach as knob. Condition: fine, only one leave with a short crack (see photo no. 6). Dimension: c. 13.6 cm long, 11.2 cm high, 11.5 cm wide.

An ornately worked, chased and engraved jug with dancing Burmese figures in repoussé. The handle in the form of an ogre. The spout might be a later addition, it is only silver plated. Base engraved "Moung Oung Myal 1875". No mark, silver tested. Condition: the ogre of the handle with a small loss, otherwise fine. Dimension: 11 cm high, weight: 382 g.

Chinese Ming dynasty (1368-1644) ritual dragon bell covered overall with a fine celadon glaze that extends down and stops neatly at the unglazed scalloped edge. The unglazed tips are burnt orange-brown from firing. Fine incised details are visible in the body behind the glaze. A double-dragon handle is at the top. The interior is fully glazed. Set of three ceremonial lidded jars from the Islamic Maranao people of Mindanao in Southern Philippines. They are made of silvered copper alloy with geometric decoration in applied wire. Condition: few dents and bumps. Dimension: 23.5 cm and 29 cm high.
