Massive Chinese Jin to Yuan dynasty (12th/13th century) Henan dark brown/black glazed horizontally ribbed ovoid form stoneware jar with high, wide shoulders narrowing at the base. The thick glaze drips down toward the flat, unglazed base. The rich black/brown glaze, referred to as “temmoku” by the Japanese, is highlighted by a russet colored cylindrical neck and rim. Measures about 13” high x 13 1/2” diameter. Very good overall condition with typical surface scratches to the glaze.

An interesting pair of boat shaped dishes, funagata o-zara, decorated in a limited palette of iron red, green enamel and gilding with a central motif of Karashishi on waves framed by a band of shippo, cash. A very unusual Kutani porcelain shallow bowl in the form of bamboo basket form rice scoop, zaru, decorated with a celadon glaze and finely painted in aka-e style with butterflies to the interior of the bowl, and an elaborate iron red brocade ground inset with repeating panels of Chrysanthemums and Suzuki, pampas grass. An unusual Meiji period bronze image of the jolly Daikoku-ten, one of the 7 gods of fortune, looking incredibly relaxed and content. His hat is removable to reveal a chamber for burning incense, and the smoke would be exhaled though his open mouth. It is 6-1/2 x 8 x 5-1/2 inches 16.5 x 20 x 14 cm) and is in overall fine, original condition. The artist chop is in a raised cartouche on the base and appears to read Yoshioka Minpo.

This lovely Quan Yin standing figure measures 13 3/4", and is leaning slightly forward and to her right, her right hand holding a Ruyi scepter, her left hand holding the edge of her robe. Comprised of red lacquer over wood, her robe is rimmed with a wide hem that is decorated with applied lacquer details, and the fabric of the robe is lightly textured with fine curved lines. Characteristically the body clay revealed was in dense and greasy feel quality.
It was kept in perfect condition when some incursion was found on the surface.
