Rare Tall Chinese Eastern Han Dynasty Sichuan Pottery Entertainer (with TL Test)

Description: A precious inkstone was newly excavated in perfect condition. Carved exquisitely on the surface of the cover with typical motifs of cranes' pine trees, creek and clouds, the instone was shaped in square Cha-Sou type and in three parts. Twin decks of ink pools were rarely find when the inkstone was made of precious Xer stone. With beautiful dark gray tint, brownish incursions were spread all over the surface. Semi porcelain charger, with a central inside decoration of a Qilin (Ch'illin) among cloud scrolls, in the cavetto six freely drawn chrysantemum. The outside decorated with a lotus scroll and a classic scroll. PERIOD : Zheng De (Cheng Te) (1506-1521 AD) MEASUREMENTS: 25 cm wide. CONDITION: no chips, cracks, hairlines and free from restorations.

A beautiful large Japanese Imari porcelain center bowl or platter very large size measuring approx. 17 inches long. Hand painted underglaze in traditional Imari color and incredible design motif circa 1900 . In very good condition one minor firing flaw. A fine addition to any collection.

A bridge and weeping-cherry (shidare sakura) draped over swirling eddies on this silver lidded Meiji period Koro incense burner on its original matching table. On the table a waterwheel is visible downstream from the same scene, tiny silver beads floating on the crests of the ripples. The incense burner has a silver lid and removable liner, with a nashiji gold-flaked bottom. It is 4-1/2 inches (11.5 cm) diameter and in fine condition...

 

Small kamcheng painted in attractive pink, green and blue enamels and decorated with flower and peach fruits; red stamped marks on the base. Period : Early twentieth Century. Measeurement : wide : 6.5 cm, Height = 7 cm. Condition : chips to the inner lid, no other damages.

Covered with celadon glaze to the foot, decorated with iron spots on the exterior, unglazed base. Diameter = 8 cm,10.5 height = 8 cm. Condition : perfect no chips, cracks or hairlines and free from restoratyion.

A pair of iron Tibetan Phurbu Daggers. The top of the handles have four expressive faces of very good workmanship crowned with human skulls.The handle has a double lotus and eternal knots on each end.Above the blades there is a makara. Size: L. 21.7cm each. Condition: No repairs. Nice patina

A 19th century (early Meiji) period Buddhist image we believe to be a thousand armed version of Yakushi Nyorai accompanied by two sages carved entirely of fragrant sandalwood on a gilded wooden base. The group is in total 15-1/2 inches (39 cm) tall, the image alone 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) tall. Both sages are missing an arm, as well as one lotus blossom rising from the wave patterned base. The holy figure itself also once had a greater number of arms, which have been lost over the last 150 years...

A museum quality work by 19th century great Oda Kaisen featuring vines burgeoning with ripe fruit under the epitaph “Painted on a muggy date (possibly “by moonlight” as the term keigetsu refers) in 1840”. Ink on silk in brass colored Satin patterned with tendrils of mist and featuring white piping in the Mincho style and ivory rollers typical of literati painting of the 19th century. It is 18-3/4 x 72-3/4 inches (47.5 x 184.5 cm) and is in excellent condition...

A 19th century Korean mother of pearl inlaid black lacquer mirror chest comprised of two drawers and double hinged top all raised on base with corner bracket feet. The mirror stand missing from within (as is often the case.) Cranes and peaches among clouds in fret border decoration adorns the top, flower decoration on the sides and bamboo decoration on the back. The front with patterned decoration centering bamboo leaf motif on the drawers...

A good Japanese studio porcelain celadon censer (after Chinese Song dynasty examples), of kinuta color, by Suwa Sozan. Seal impressed on the bottom between the three legs with unglazed feet. With an even more extraordinary, finely worked silver cover with gilt highlights (eyes, beak, comb, feather details, hollyhock blossom stamens.) The treatment and the details of the hollyhock leaves down to the veining and insect nibbles is sublime...

Fine Large Chinese Eastern Han Dynasty Sichuan Pottery Musician / Entertainer

This pottery model of a musician was made during the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220) and excavated from Sichuan province. It is made from a reddish pottery and quite "heavily-potted". A variety of figures of this general type are well documented. They are often musicians and entertainers, and were made in a variety of sizes, the smallest being around 15cm in height...

The work on this superb Meiji p. Kutani vase would easily rival that of the greatest studios of the time (and surpass those of today!). Chrysanthemum and other flowers in overglaze enamels spread their brilliant foliage over the whit pebble textured moriage shoulder, Gold fading to white below the bamboo fence-like belt inlayed with kiri-kane gold and silver diamonds. Dew drops of gold moriage cling to the large leaves while plums blossom below...

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled "A Glimpse of Ueno Park" by Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) dated Showa 12 (1937).
