A beautiful Suiseki mounted on rich red carved wood base enclosed in a custom made kiri-wood display box. There is a sublime balance between the ragged peaks and deep clefts in the stone, and excellent example of the Renzan (Range) type of stone. Very dramatic deeply concave oval shaped African shield from Ethiopia. The animal hide is scraped free of hair and then placed over a shaped board with protrusions which will allow for greater protection in warding off blows. The edge is tightly rolled and there are added tool marks for heightened decoration. The handle is tied and knotted into place at a slight angle to allow for a more comfortable hold.

This rare decorated glazed bowl was made around AD 826, during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906) at the Changsha kilns. We can be that precise about the dating because it was excavated from the "Belitung Wreck" in 1998-99, a mile off the coast of Belitung, Indonesia. A very fine antique Japanese Ivory netsuke of a Buddhist monk and a Oni figure. Artist signed very fine intricate carving the Buddha has a gold pin third eye on his forehead. Measuring approx. 2 inches tall or 5 centimeters. Truly a masterfully carved piece.

Description:

A Cizhou Cut-Glaze stem censer was found in a rare form and was preserved in perfect condition.
The glaze on the surface was in subdued gloss when slight abrasions were found on the rims.
At the bottom, in the hole of the stem foot, the rough-feel body clay was revealed with grayish tint when manually maneuvered scraping scars were found obviously.

This is a very rare image of baby krishna. He is usually depicted crawling, but this posture where he's trying to put his foot in his mouth is rarely seen. The figure was cast in Gangna-Jumna (two metals) technique. Made in Orissa in the 18th century. Good wear and lovely patina. L. 7 cm. Provenance: private collection Belgium.

Made of red silk, embroidered in the 'forbidden stitch' with peonies and other flowers in red, yellow and white, lined with gold thread. The tassels bound with gold and silver thread. Dimensions: the pouch 7x6 cm, the tassels 16 cm.

This is a charming lobed shaped tea-pot standing on four small individual feet. On one side it has a painting of a pair of sparrow in a blooming lotus pond. On the other side, it has a poem written on it. Circa. early Chinese Republic period 1940s-1950s.

No hairline crack, glaze fritting, damage, repair or restoration. The tea-pot is in good condition.

Japanese Oribe Seto Ware Andon-Zara Dish - Edo Period

This stoneware dish is an andon-zara (or abura-zara), an oil lamp dish. It was made in the early 19th (or possibly late 18th) century, during the Edo period (1615 - 1868). It is heavily-potted and has a delightful slight warp to it. It is coated in a crackled glaze and decorated in underglaze iron-brown, the pattern featuring a stylised flower, two interlocking circles above what may be a fence. Description: A bronze Karmapa Lama figure was finely cast.
Being preserved rarely with original gilding, this strikingly depicted statue was in sitting posture on a square pedestal.
Fine carving craftsmanship was well rendered in depicting the deity's facial expression in a natural way.
The bottom cover was a later restoration which was not unusual for Tibet bronze pieces.
