This charming antique purse from Tibet was hand-made to be worn hanging from a waist belt. Lacking ornamentation, is was probably a daily use item to hold coins. A simple endless knot toggle is used for closure. The purse is 3.5 inches at the widest point.

A lacquered wooden box decorated in built up Takamaki-e with Tsuba and Kozuka by Heian Zohiko dating from the first half of the 20th century. Inside is fine even nashiji. The decorations rise quite high off the surface, almost as if genuine tsuba were lying atop the box. A very finely decorated jar or lantern depicting flowers and insects reserved against a delicately incised pink ground. The base carries the iron red seal mark of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795) but this item was probably made early in the 20th Century - durig the Guangxu or early Republic periods.
