The wavy edged rim is bordered with garlands of summer flowers, surrounding a central reserve with a hand-painted floral bouquet, all trimmed with fine bands of gilding. The body of the porcelain is thinly potted and the white glaze ground is distinctly tinged with blue, with an unglazed foot ring...

Of exceptionally large size, this tin glazed tankard is German, likely Nuremberg from the mark on the base, and is mounted in pewter, also marked on the interior of the lid. Measuring 11" high, it is very well painted with foliate designs surrounding a medallion or crest depicting a scene of buildings. Over a slip of grayish white, the decoration is done in varying shades of blue, green, yellow, and orange, with magenta or black outlines...

Description: An elegant porcelain water basin was in light celadon tint. In a rolled lip, shallow belly and flat but well shaped foot ring, the water basin had a beautiful image with strong scholar mood. Natural ice cracks were yielded under the glaze at the bottom of the basin when one minor glaze burst had happened in the cavetto due to firing. Brownish finish was preserved at the foot ring. A jade of a chimera (mythical animal. The light grey-green nephrite jade has areas and spots of beige and dark brown natural that are to the stone. A pair of Georgian silver table spoons by Hester Bateman, the famous female smith who has been called the "Queen of English Silversmiths." London, 1776-1777. Length: 8.25 inches. These are in the Old English pattern with down turned handles engraved with their original family crest of a rising eagle with wings inverted on a mural coronet. These spoons are in excellent condition with no dings, repairs, cracks or wear to the bowls...

A dish of raised barbed lotus form with a moulded ribbed cavetto decorated in underglaze blue with gilt outlined enamels dating to circa 1740-70. A man-headed snake coils atop this incredible mid Edo period (18th century) image of Benzaiten (Saraswati) inside a mountain shaped reliquary of dark wood. Inside the gilded cave she sits on a gilded lotus base. The figure holds a variety of sacred implements in her 8 hands. Riding on the benevolent figures head is the snake seated behind a Torii-shaped Crown settled between two Buddhist jewels...

An antique still life painting of fruit and berries with a red breasted grosbeak. Unsigned, but probably of either a Dutch or German origin. 18th century. On the 9th day of the 6th month of 1775, 3 artists, Reisen Uno (Motoaki/Gensho, a songwriter, poet and calligrapher), Keiho Takada (Kano Chikuin, a Kano trained painter of budhist images and calligrapher) and the master of the Chikudo, Teiun held a songwriting party. This scroll is a recording of the scene, with the subsequent song written along the top, followed by a poem by Chikuin and Reisen, recorded by Teiun. This is a truly fine scroll, recently restored from its worn Edo mountings...
