This man's quilted hat would have been worn in northern China. The pattern of the quilting on the crown of the hat suggests a mongolian influence. The long sides and rear flaps are heavily padded and are each extensively quilted with a large flower and diamond background. These flaps would be worn down to protect the neck from the bitter wind, or tied up on milder days days. The silk on the outside is in excellant condition...

This Chinese pipe is from the Miao Ethnic Minority group in the vicinity of Rong Jiang. My Miao friends insist that this pipe would have been used for smoking tobacco and not opium. Made from silver alloy, the stem design has the two dragons chasing the center pearl.

The pipe is in very good condition and is 19" long and it comes with its own custom made stand.

By an arc loop as the knob, the seal was cast in a square shape with slanting surface on four sides.
On the printing side, four Chinese archaic(Xiao Zhuan) characters were finely cast.
It reads as JIN DU YIN XIN-the Seal of Jin Du. Jin du is also called Louyang, the capital of Song Dynasty. So it was probably an official seal...
