An evocative, vintage Japanese woodblock print by Eiichi Kotozuka (1906-1979), entitled "Night Rain in Rakuhoku (Kyoto)". It is the large Oban size of 40 cm x 27 cm. (or 15-3/4" x 10-3/4") - visible size in frame. It has the Uchida publisher's mark on the lower right, it is in a 23" x 18-1/2" black finished wood frame, carved in the style of bamboo wood (it possibly may be bamboo or could be another wood, the wood is entirely painted). The scene is stark and striking...

Japanese Antique Hina Doll with a face of Gosho ningyo (Imperial Palace doll), late Edo period. Very few servant dolls have survived from this period. Not only the flimsy nature of thin silk and the light coloring of their clothes, but a few dolls in this quality were made at the time (late 1700s to mid 1800s). The doll is 9 inches tall; a large servant doll, very good condition.

Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 5.25". This is an example of the "Nambu-kei" tradition of Iwate Prefecture. It was made at Hanamaki Onsen (Hanamaki Hot Spring) by an unidentified artisan. The wood used is "keyaki" (Zelkova-Chinese Elm.) It is not dated, but was most likely made during the past 20 years. This particular tradition of kokeshi is unique in that there is no painting, as in all other traditional kokeshi of Tohoku (NE Japan.) The wood is left bare...

Description: An archaic nephrite jade pendant or Huang was in greenish tint with white patches. By incursions of calcified white dots on the surface, the ancient jade piece was verified as a newly excavated piece. In a decent look and quite good size, this rare piece was carved meticulously on two sides with characteristic grain patterns. From the jade quality, the sleek manual carving lines, and the obvious incursions, we could authenticate the piece was from the dated Han Dynasty for sure...

Chinese blue and whites porcelain plates, decorated with temple and figures and lake view, late 19th/ early 20th century period. Size, diameter of each plate is 5 1/2 inches, in good condition with rim chips to one plate.

This is a very finely potted Northern Song (960 A.D – 1130 A.D) dynasty qingbai or yingqing zhadou vessel with an aqua sea greenish glazed. It stands on a flat base curving towards a deep baluster or bulbous body towards an everted wide flared mouth. zhadou are commonly used as refuse vessels placed on banqueting table as receptacles for fish or meat bones. Nice pooling of sea green colour at the neck and base of the zhadou.

There is no repair or restoration, chips or glaze fritting...

Deep, deep saphire blue emerald-cut glass stone in a handsome setting. Goldtone with a three strand goldtone chains necklace. Any jewelry by Adele Simpson is rare, and sometimes made for Simpson by Schreiner as this piece may have been. Pendant is 1 1/4" by 1" and is 3/4" deep. Full length of chains and clasp is 14 1/2".
