A stunning Art Deco yellow crystal sterling silver buckle design bangle bracelet from around 1920. This vintage beauty shouts Deco and it has the same silver tooling and buckle clasp as seen on signed DIAMONBAR bracelets by Wachenheimer Bros of Rhode Island (1905-1933) and this is probably an early example. A Han Dynasty terra cotta horse head with a very animated expression. The pottery horse which symbolises speed and perseverance are buried along with the dead royalty and generals as funeary objects. It is a status symbol to be buried with pottery horses and horse head. The horse head is painted with white slip paint with red paint showing as the harness on the horse head.

The horse head has abrasion, wear and tear due to the long period of burial...

An 8-1/4" salad plate in the Prairie Crocus pattern, issued by Royal Albert in the (Canadian) Provincial Flowers series (1984-2001). Korean 19th Century Porcelain High-Footed Bowl in Box with Shifuku

This "heavily-potted" bowl with a high foot was made in 19th century, during the late Joseon (Choson) Dynasty (AD 1392 - 1910). It is coated all over in a pale grey glaze, that seems to have just the slightest hint of blue in places. Embedded in the glaze around the foot rim are many pieces of kiln grit.

Diameter 13 cm, height 9 cm...

Accompanied by a letter describing the pipe and its presentation to the letter's recipient, this pipe depicts General Joseph Joffre, a famous French military man who served from 1869-1916, and was the Commander in Chief of the French Forces on the Western Front in WWI. Very expertly carved, the pipe is a figured hard wood, with a curved horn mouth piece. It does not appear to have ever been used, as the bowl is perfectly clean. The letter is dated October 27, 1918...

Beautiful screen, the quality did not show here. The measurements are 66"L x 36"H. Hand painted on silk with silk matting and framed in the black lacquered wood. Condition is excellent except in the areas shown in the pictures. One dent did break the paper but not so visible (enlargement 5), small scratches on the right side corner in the matting area (enlargement 6)is minor. The damage in the back (done by a cat) is worse than the picture (enlargement #8).

 

Description:

A Junyao Lotus-bud bowl was in decent shape.
Stand on the well-shaped foot ring, the bowl was evenly applied with light green glaze without any decoration.
Subtle incursions in whitish condition were happened around the mouth rim and at the bottom of the foot ring.
Glaze crackles were yielded too.

Date: late N. Song to Jin periods, 11th/12th century.

Chinese Qing dynasty stem cup with everted rim decorated around the exterior of the cup with two faintly incised green five-clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl set against an egg-yolk yellow background. A green phoenix is at the interior well. A six-character kaishu form underglaze blue Guangxu mark is at the bottom of the interior stem. Probably of the period and dating circa 1900. 3 3/8” high x just under 4 1/2" diameter; weighs 120 grams (4 1/4 ounces)...

Description:

A black-glazed tripod censer was in decent look by molding with two long handles on the sides.
Uniquely there were squeezed and applied motifs of dragon and phoenix being decorated on two sides of the surface separately.
The coarse but dense-quality body clay was revealed at the bottom including the feet.
The feet were squeezed and applied to the bottom when potter's finger-mail prints were being left to the body clay...

Chinese Qing dynasty rectangular jade openwork plaque, carved with a design of a deer under a pine tree, mounted into the lid of an early 20th century rectangular silver box raised on four feet. Two-character “chun yin” (pure silver) mark to the bottom of the box. The jade has a pale celadon-gray hue. The box measures 3 1/2" long x 3” wide x 1 5/8” high. The jade plaque is 2 7/8” x 2 1/4." The total weight: 8.645 oz. Very good overall condition...

A white pidgeon perches on a discarded or fallen roof tile decorated with calligraphy by Miyanaga Tozan enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 9 inches (23 cm) tall and in excellent condition. I believe this is likely by the second generation.
Miyanaga Tozan I (1868-1941) is one of the most important names in Kyoto ceramics. He was born in Ishikawa prefecture, and graduated from the (now) Tokyo University of Art. While a government employee, he represented Japan at Arts Expos...
