Mid Century Sci Fi oil on canvas of a card dealer wearing a dealers visor and a green cardigan sweater said to be magazine cover from a 1950s sci fi publication. We bought this and another we are listing in the late 1990 in Los Angeles , the seller didn't remember the artist name but said the artist was an early Sci Fi artist . the painting is unsigned in good condition though could use a cleaning. Very well done one of my favorites. Size overall 25" by 19.5" sight 19.5" by 13.5"
Original oil painting on canvas by Helen Coolidge Adams(USA, Boston, 1917-1997). Circa 1950. Signed lower left. In excellent original condition and with original Norton Howe frame. Well listed, exhibited, and in the collections of a number of institutions.
For the collector of scarce early Utah art, an oil on canvas, 22" by 18" on the stretchers (29" by 25" in old, likely original frame), dated 1928 and titled on reverse "Timpanogos Creek", signed lower left by the noted Utah artist BENT FRANKLIN LARSEN (1882-1970). (There is also some old writing on paper adhering to the frame but it is difficult to read). Timpanogos Creek is a scenic area near Provo, Utah. Larsen is a well-known figure in Utah art...
A striking, Mid Century, seventies oil on canvas abstract painting executed in a denim-like blue, the unusual and complex almost three dimensional-appearing pattern arising out of that base, 30" by 40", unframed, signed lower right "Karl McIntosh". McIntosh (1940-2009) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and passed away in Ogden, Utah, after a long career in fine art. McIntosh worked in illustration, and theater design, and painted futuristic and surrealistic paintings...
An unusual and decorative circa 1930's unframed 16" by 20" oil on canvas painting featuring a beautiful young maiden centered in a tawny, mountainous Southwest landscape, Native Americans surrounding her, signed lower left rather illegibly. I have long studied the signature and believe it might be "Ben Mead", (1902-1986) who was a southwestern (Texas and California) artist-illustrator based in Amarillo and Dallas. Mead focused on illustration for publication...
**PAIR** of oil on board paintings (each 14" by 11", plus framing 1 1/4" wide), of nymphs clad only in diaphanous veils, dancing in classical poses in forested landscapes, rays of light selectively illuminating the scenes. The works are by New England artist ROBERT C. WOODBERRY (1874-). Woodberry was born in Massachusetts and appears to have spent most of his life in New England, painting mostly landscapes. He was a student of W. D...
A rare circa 1930 oil by the noted Northern California woman artist GRACE ALLISON GRIFFITH (1885-1955), the subject a tawny field among rugged hills. The unframed oil on canvas board measures 12" by 15 3/4". The artist signed in red at lower right with her distinctive signature. Griffith was born in Sebastopol, California, near Santa Rosa, in idyllic Sonoma County farm and ranch country. Her father, a fruit rancher, was credited with introducing the Gravenstein apple variety to the area...
A Fine Painting by the Listed Monterey, California Artist, Russell Swan (1908-63). Measures about 14 1/4" by 12", overall frame is about 18 3/4" by 16 1/2". Signed lower right, also signed and titled "Monterey Dwelling" on back.
*One of two works by the artist in my shop**, this is an oil on board painting of what appears to be a wooden fence in a tawny landscape. The painting measures 11 1/2" by 14 1/2" and 15" by 18 1/2" in early gold framing. The work is signed at lower left. This artist, HALDANE DOUGLAS (1893-1980), was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was in Southern California by the early 1920's...
Original painting, framed under glass, circa 1960, by Hilda Rubin (Hilda Rubin Pierce). Signed l.l. 23" by 16" painting alone, 31" by 23" in its frame. In excellent condition.
Hilda Rubin is an American artist born in Austria in 1922. She studied art with Oskar Kokoschka before leaving Austria for England in 1938 as Hitler was taking over the country, and eventually settled in Chicago. Studied art at the AIC, where she exhibited regularly...

Rare gouache on paper circa 1940s by Emanuel Glicenstein (Glicen) Romano (American born in Italy, 1897-1984). This work measures roughly 12" by 9" (19" by 15" in its frame). It is signed Glicenstein Romano l.l. Glicenstein Romano worked for the Federal Art Project creating murals in the thirties. He created a series of allegorical works depicting the Holocaust in the forties and this work may be part of that group...
Oil on tin sheet painting of a man in cowboy hat, titled on reverse backing "The Old Hat", 16" by 12" (22 1/2" by 18 3/4" framed), signed at lower right and again on the backing, by the well known artist of the American Southwest, RAMON KELLEY (born 1939). This is a sensitively painted work of a subject obviously very familiar to the artist. Kelley studied on a scholarship at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, where he counted the artist Charlie Dye among his instructors. A Taos, New Me...
Large mixed media abstract painting (28 3/4" by 39 1/2", 31 3/4" by 42 1/2" in gold leaf frame) on plywood panel, signed at lower right "WAHL", and dated there 2001. The painting is striking and handsome, the color combinations very in tune with today's retro contemporary look. A brief search of the name does not immediately point to a known artist. Medium is perhaps a thinned oil or gouache possibly, with some pencil lines drawn as well. The frame is gold leaf but has some losses and peelin...
A nicely painted oil on canvas still life of flowers in a Chinese vase or pot, balancing between trompe l'oeil realism and impressionism, signed at lower left by artist ELIZABETH CAMPBELL. This is a contemporary work, likely less than thirty years old, measuring 28" by 22" (33 1/2" by 27 1/2" framed). There is a listing by this name but I do not believe it to be the same artist. Condition is excellent save for a small scuff at upper left.

Jake Lee's works are increasingly sought after by collectors in the wake of his relatively recent passing, some works approaching $20,000 at auctions. This is a clean, unusually large (24" by 36" plus 4" on a side framing) example, painted directly on board in heavy gouache or tempera (thinned oil?) and in excellent condition. See the net for more images of his paintings, which include California landscapes, as well as overseas exotic images executed in the course of his travels. Lee was born i...
An antique truly American painting (not the more common similar-looking English scenes) with feathery tree at left, a few simple wooden houses, distant church steeple, and two tiny central figures, a manageable size at 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 37 1/2" in the likely original framing), apparently unsigned. This old work came out of a dilapidated local home, having no doubt hung there for decades. When found it had a sheet of glass over the canvas. Despite the protection, over the past 150 or so y...
