The work certainly exhibits a modernist touch in some spiky passages in the vegetation, and the choice of red/orange color contrasting with the other more somber tones...

The area around the signature being very dry and "blanched", I moistened the area in order to make it easier to photograph the signature and date. Very surprisingly I have been unable to attach the work to a listed artist...

Lee.” He lived in Cornwall New York and in France, where he died. The stretcher had an old label for a French artist supplies dealer Lucien LeFevre-Foinet with the number 7350.
